Mod Releases / Re: Vivi's Skill Training
« on: October 05, 2024, 10:01:11 AM »
Yes, there's a limit and BAC uses almost all of it. You can only use 25 letters total. There's no scrolling.

Look at the files that start with menudef, both in BAC and in this mod. They assign each menu to a letter. If both mods assign the same thing to the letter D then you'll only see one of them. Find some letter in BAC that doesn't have a letter assigned to it, or some menu in BAC that you're not using and put a // at the start to comment it out, then reuse the empty letters by editing the menudef for this mod.

Oh, good find! It should stay a standing up sapling until you step onto the tile and can feel that it has been felled.

I am not Finnish but a Finnish friend once brought me some of these:
Salmiakki - salty liquorice
Salmiakki koskenkorva - salty liquorice flavoured liqueur

I liked the taste, but it is somewhat unusual to like the taste so either give it to an adventurous friend or to a friend you do not like very much.

This is one of my favourite starting scenarios! To minimise the amount of rerolling i have to do, i pick islander and press H to roll somewhere in my home territory. I pick robber start to start injured and to get thrown to another random island.

They'll eventually despawn but it takes a few months. They won't turn into the quest; the quest is randomly generated and creates new robbers.

A while back someone posted a python script here for finding robbers for the quest -- it'll work for finding your regular robbers too if they haven't despawned.

If you take a starving or badly injured dog hunting, they will whimper pitifully and refuse to chase the prey, but right now that's the only incentive to feed them, aside from roleplay.

I'm not sure, but maybe the only time that counts for raising the hunger meter is the time spent zoomed in and not doing any tasks or sleeping? That would explain seeing companions eat sometimes but not very often.

Also, I've noticed that my companions don't eat very much anymore either. I had the accompanying a maiden quest and she didn't eat anything in the week or so that we were travelling even though I gave her food before we left, and hired companions are also not eating very much -- though rarely I have seen them eat. My guess is that the time spent travelling with them on the wilderness map doesn't count? But I'm not sure that fully explains it. They (companions and dogs) also don't seem to eat while I'm sleeping, even if the dog was labelled hungry before i went to sleep.

Also if i'm fishing 29* steps away from where the dogs are tied, they don't eat until I get back near them, but they do starve. Once I'm near them, they'll eat the food that's on the ground.

So if you go far enough away, they neither starve nor eat, if you go a short distance away, they starve and don't eat, if you are nearby, they eat when they get hungry.

*I haven't tested different numbers of steps yet. 29 is where the water is deep and that's how far away from the tree they're tied is.

Bug reports / [3.84] Unobservered dogs don't get hungry
« on: August 20, 2024, 09:27:45 AM »
Left 3 dogs tied to a tree for a week with 3 perches. When I came back, the 3 perches were spoiled and the dogs were not hungry. I commanded them to eat the perches and they ate them.

They should have all been starving after a week and the perches should have been eaten.

This isn't a new bug, I've been noticing it for a few versions.

I just tested with 3 of my dogs. I left them for a week with a 3 perches. They did not get hungry and they did not eat the perches. The perches did spoil in that time. So yeah, it's bugged.

The dog will never starve to death, so you don't have to worry too much about miscalculating. I think 1-2 cuts per dog per day to keep them fed.

There used to be a bug that the dog wouldn't eat unless you were there to watch them eat, and I'm not sure if it's been fixed. You should try leaving them with a pile of meat and seeing how much they eat and whether they're hungry when you get back.

or get epilepsy menu flashes on my screen quickly pressing S > T over and over.

This one tiny thing is something that actually bothers me a lot. I have mild photosensitivity and it's really something that messes with my eyes and brain. I have to sometimes close my eyes when I do this, which makes no sense as I'm (the player) not even seeing the terrain I'm trying to navigate anymore 😅
Do you know about the alt-t alternative to s-t? It doesn't bring up the skill menu so you don't see the flashes. You can use alt with any of the skill keys.

I like this:
HANDCRAFT OPTIONS: Arrows
ARROWS: Blunt arrows
One slender tree trunk can yield 3 blunt arrows.
HOW MANY (OF TOTAL 10)?

I agree, the current interface doesn't help me remember that I should be making 3 arrows at a time if I want to use the slender trunks efficiently.
