Logs are made from tree trunks, with the Timbercraft skill.
Acquiring the resource
Each tree trunk yields 1 log, along with a small pile of branches.
The preferred tool for carving a log is a Broad Axe. With a broad axe, carving one log takes around 40 minutes.
Usage
Constructions requiring logs:
- Wall sections (6 logs for each section)
Note that logs can still be split up for boards and blocks of wood.

The official URW in-game encyclopedia (accessed by the F1 key) describes the log thusly:
Fell down a tree and cut the branches away, and you have a fresh log. Logs are usually stored for couple of months so that they will dry a bit. Logs are mainly used for building or burning. Best fire-wood comes from birch-trees. For building the best are fir and pine-trees, which are cut down in mid-winter.
