Gameplay questions / Re: Are the animals getting tired too quickly?
« on: August 20, 2022, 08:47:35 AM »
It's very dependent on your character. A fast character has a much easier time chasing down an elk than a slow one, since the fast character gives the elk much less time to recover between bouts of fleeing. It also depends heavily on the terrain and character tracking skills, as open terrain with clear footprints allows the character to chase the elk a lot easier than in spruce infested forests where you have to get very close to the elk before it notices you and flees (and so it has a lot more time to recover), in particular if you can't always follow the footprints, as trees are in the way of the ones you could see.

However, something that HAS changed is that snow now affects others than the PC, in particular deep snow with a crust strong enough to carry the PC, but not strong enough to carry the elk. That situation is drastically different from before the change.

The issue has been reported before (and I've encountered it as well).
I don't think it's related to the hook snapping message, though: you just sometimes get branches.

General Discussion / Re: Rattle of death
« on: July 16, 2022, 08:28:18 PM »
I've made use of death rattles and thuds with fresh characters where I've used it to put something into an empty belly. Needless to say, such characters aren't equipped to deal with anything that isn't scared away.

I was sure about the thud from bird vs bird, but less so when a bird targets a mammal, but it may well be true that bird attacker => thud regardless of what the target is.

It's been present for years. Caused by something getting killed by another animal, so if you're desperate for meat you may want to try to find it to steal the leftovers (but you should probably reconsider is the killer is a large predator rather than a bird or fox...).

As a reply to Erkka, I can now reach the forum without complaints, after staying away for a few days due to the issue.

General Discussion / Re: A few question and suggestions about game.
« on: July 02, 2022, 10:04:32 AM »
A. The game has the game courses and in game help.
B. No. The game isn't meant to be played with save scumming. It's possible to do manually, and I do recommend regularly backing up your save in case of the rare crash.

Have you looked at the development page https://www.unrealworld.fi/urw_development.html? Many of your points can be found there.

Destroying this unique turn based single player game to create a multi player shooter is a horrible idea. If you want a multi player shooter then create one of those. You can even use a similar setting but in a different location.

General Discussion / Re: How to complete "Adventurer's (Item)" Quest?
« on: June 08, 2022, 06:06:29 PM »
The description isn't mixed up in English, as far as I can tell. However, the wording is such that you can easily get tricked into mentally think it's reversed.

General Discussion / Re: Regarding squirrel's hides

Sorry, but I'm not sure I understand what you're asking (and so guess it might be difficult for others as well).

My main interpretation is that it's about donation, in which case the official page is here https://www.unrealworld.fi/urw_donation-based.html. Since it would involve money, I'd recommend just looking at the link and then locate the page yourself from UrW's top page to avoid a potential scam risk. There's a "How and why to Support UrW development button both on the top page and on the linked page that should lead you to the details.

General Discussion / Re: Everything about Njerpezit?
« on: June 03, 2022, 09:04:49 AM »
All Njerps are rabid. They'll all attack you on sight, and that includes children. Like (other) animals they can get scared and run away, but they'll eventually turn back and attack you again until either you or they are dead.

According to what I remember from my single Njerp purge attempt (PC died after extermination of about a third of the territory), civilians seem to carry the same kind of stuff civilians elsewhere tend to carry. Warriors carry varying kinds of weapons and armor, including Njerp weapons. I don't know if I've encountered Njerps with culture specific weapons of other cultures, though (as you might expect raiders to do).

If I remember correctly their villages looked like villages elsewhere in the non northern parts (i.e. wooden buildings, not kotas). I've never seen a war camp that wasn't a starting scenario one.

Suggestions / Re: Merge the axe and club skills
« on: May 31, 2022, 11:07:18 AM »
Without any personal experience, I believe there are a number of things that are common to all kinds of fighting, such as how to move efficiently, keep all parts of yourself away from enemy reach as much as possible, bio mechanical knowledge (i.e. what you can expect to be able to do/not do), detection of incoming threats (which can be considered part of dodge/block), etc.

However, that doesn't necessarily have to be modeled.

It can be noted that just whacking away with an axe as if it was a club is probably going to be rather useless, as an axe requires proper edge alignment to hit properly. Also, the targets suitable for a club strike are different from those suitable for an axe strike.

Bug reports / Re: [3.71] Elk Fat Disappeared
« on: May 29, 2022, 09:29:21 AM »
To get back what was stolen from you:
You can make a fake recipe that produces elk fat as a minimum time task. I think such recipes can consume nothing, but otherwise you can sacrifice e.g. a twig in it.

As I said, they're rare. I've gotten them two or three times over all the years I've played the game. I've got no idea where my characters were, but it makes sense for it to happen in areas with more water courses. And I don't think I've ever gotten one bordering a lake...

148
My hands down favorite is anything (including spruce infested!) bordering a river. They're rare, but the reduction of possible target tiles is substantial.

I've been caught in that trap as well, although I used a bowl, so it wasn't a significant loss.

General Discussion / Re: Valuables?
« on: May 15, 2022, 09:33:25 AM »
The quest will be given to you by someone in a village (one where they'll talk to you, of course) at some point. I don't believe there is any way to speed this process up apart from checking for quests regularly.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if you'd also have to be on friendly terms with the village, rather than just being tolerated or just a random stranger, but that's mostly speculation.

A further hint is that it's one of the longer term quests that have a long expiration period that can be active concurrently with "normal" quests.
