https://www.unrealworld.fi/urw_donation-based.html Goes into a bit of detail about what is and used to be the lifetime membership.
It was after you had contributed over $35.00 (usd) to the game. Many still made/make donations periodically donating to the game.

That island life. Most recently I've been playing on large islands. I don't know if it's the fact that I or my prey have limited range so I I have more opportunities to spot wild life, but I seem to have more success with this "locked in" together by geography. At least it makes me notice how rich in wildlife UrW is. Last island between kills and subsequent sightings, 4 elk, a reindeer herd, 2 lynx 2 badger 2 weasels an erimine, a fox, couple of badgers, pair of grey seals, half a dozen squirrels, and I heard wolves but who knows how far that sound can carry.

Re: That island life. Island life is a peaceful life.  At least until you're trapped there with a couple Njerps...

Re: [Lore Question] Cultural differences?
It's huge topic in detail, but there's something put down in game encyclopedia for each in-game culture.
But if you're looking for historical details and research then some web searches for "iron age finland" may get you going, or I can recommend a book or two.

Opportunity for Amazon store with your recommendations for XX % return if you are going to recommend them anyway.

;D Hehe. I believe the book (I shall soon mention) is there as well, but I'll I encourage people to find it elsewhere.

Re: [Lore Question] Cultural differences?
I would appreciate a book recommendation or two for a beginner :)

In English you could try find "Finnish Folk Culture" by Ilmar Talve. It cover many, many, many aspects of...well...Finnish folk culture, and even though it's not about iron-age per se you'll get a picture of archaic and age-old traditions.

3.61 released (on the homepage) and a happy new year! On my behalf this decade ends with release of version 3.61 out to public on the homepage. Standalone installers are available now. If you're new to this version find your way to downloads section and be sure also to view changelog there as a lot has changed in 3.60 and 3.61.

We wish you a happy new year! (...and happy new version for those who only now get to try it out.)

I'll keep hibernating for a little while, although may occasionally reply to a post or two, but getting back on track for real with coding will have to wait until mid-january.

See you in 2020 - that's yet another decade for UnReal World development as well.

Re: programming language? Hello, and thanks for your question!

The UnReal World is written in C and C++
I'm afraid that switching to another language would mean practically re-writing all of the code by hand, which would be an enormously time-consuming task. Also, we have been rather happy with C and C++ so there hardly is any reason to consider other languages.

Underrail - simply wow.... Hey there fellow wood crawlers. About a week ago I stumbled across this gem of a game called Underrail and to be honest, I am simply blows away. I normally would reserve my judgement till I finish the title or at least get about half way through, but after reading up about the title I am under strong impression that it'll take me months to do so and then I might forget to share this little gem with you guys. So far, I think this Underrail is what a true Fallout 3 should've been, so if you liked original FO1 and 2, give it a go. I think you'd be very pleasantly surprised :)
