i.e. something showing up in timber category and not usable for crafts.
I don't like ordinary wooden items producing fancy sounds aka hunting horn.

The sesta is my choice for a general purpose base item because it has very low utility elsewhere, especially when a paddle will outperform it in water transportation.

That's a great point.

Who would wield a .Net tying needle. to go trudge across the lake edges?  ;D

FYI BAC uses "hunting horn" alot but thats likely from the Rain and Bouidda heritage.

If you 'apply' any of those items, the item will "produce a fancy sound".

Hence the question: is broken arrow a base item? Only usable as part of fire starting kindling. Not accidentally consumed by auto-selection on other recipes. That or adding (x) [ask_num] in every recipe...

Branch might be another contender, just edit the Torch and Wooden fishhook recipes to force Branch selection. Kind of annoying spelunking, but other than that, not a huge bummer. Might be odd for some items to be used for cordage/rope twisting, but at least wouldn't be [remove].

Problem with branch as a base item is a risk that any recipe calling for a branch may consume your custom item

Since no recipes consume a hunting horn it was a safe one to work with

I recall asking as a suggestion for a neutral base object so that it wouldnt be using the base object field as recipe inputs.

“Arrow shaft” Might be my go to from now. They’re not automatically selected when crafting arrows. Especially useful if the .custom item. is not in timber category.
