I have not seen deer elk or other herbivores cross water to escape. I have seen wolves when aggressive cross water to attack me. I educated guess is things will cross water when aggressive to attack, but not when fleeing.  All animals seem to be able and willing to cross ice

Ok thanks for the explanations. I can live with this ingame limitation, you have to give Sami and Errka cedit for making a game with so few of these minor limitations. They have done so much with so little resources.

No the preferred tool is a hand axe a battle axe is an akward tool for this. Plus the difference is about 3 hours  vrs 30 minutes with the same character.

I started a shelter to see how long it would take to build with a Battle axe, at 49 minutes I decided it was too long. I paused construction picked up my hand axe and resumed building. The game said you use hand axe but it still is taking hours to build a shelter. it feels like the original build time with battle axe is locked in even though I now have proper tool. I am still using 3.51

As you work on your mod Brygun, I personally would like to see fine vrs rough punt effect speed and endurance cost. As a more streamlined punt would go faster and require less effort to paddle do to the decreased friction of the water against the hull. On a side note in real life paddle caft the basic trade offs are longer boats tend to be more efficient, go straighter and have increased load capacity, but takes more time to turn. Increasing the width slows a boat down but adds greatly to stability and carring capacity. Where as the opposite could be said about narrowing the width. Also a consideration on large bodies of water a boat with high sides can be very difficult to use in windy conditions as the side will act as a sail

 Apologies in advance if what I suggest is a programmer nightmare I know nothing about it so I know nothing about what is feasible. Could it be done that you talk to companion have an option like I want you too.. then key board  command for task and then targeting where.  It would allow for lots of other tasks like skinning and butchering

Also check that it really did say you targeting the njerp. With the dog leased it it could have targeted it for butchering the menus are very similar, I'm guilty of killing a leashed animals by accident that way

I've had good success a tile a away with wolves. Ended up catching  8 of 9 wolves over the course of a week with a pit trap and a dead fall, villagers with pitchforks and torches got number 9

I'm thinking of specificly of adding bones to soups and stews, and roasted marrow. Maybe bones for roasting and beater for cracking open. I think think this. Would be a nice addition to my carnivore's diet

As long as the dev are looking at bear pipes I noticed that the total weight of the parts of a threshed plant are more than the wieght of the plant pre threshing but that might just be due the way the game rounds wieght
