General Discussion / Re: What's Going On In Your Unreal World?
« on: January 17, 2021, 03:27:14 AM »
Form posse of some hunters, woodsmen, peasants, adventurers from nearby village (after wounds healed) and go see the robbers again.

Returned again with two companions. One was a grandmaster with axes who killed one of the robbers in a single hit -- yay! Though... we still got defeated. Maybe I should've hired more companions. I didn't think there were more than three robbers, but it turns out I was wrong.

They'll leave eventually... right? With 79% injury, it'll be some time before I can return anyway. For now, I'm more concerned about the bird thief quest that's about to expire. (I cast the spell but the thief still hasn't confessed.)

Gameplay questions / Help with bird thief spell
« on: January 17, 2021, 02:22:01 AM »
I have the bird thief quest and have completed most of it: found the trapping site, brought a bird to the old man, etc. The old man told me how to cast the spell. The guy who gave me the quest lives at a small settlement with no sauna, so I went to the nearest village, lit a fire in the sauna, then threw the three feathers from the trapping site in the stove after it burned out.

Several days have passed since then; I would estimate a week and a half or two weeks. The bird thief still hasn't confessed. Did I do something wrong? Does the spell have to be cast in the same village if you do it in the sauna? I can't cast it on base rock because the ground is hidden by the snow.

Ran into robbers while travelling. Yikes! I tried to stealthily get away, but the robbers kept approaching, so I dropped everything I was carrying and tied my bull to the nearest tree, since as far as I know, robbers will only take things you're carrying. I also marked the location on the map so I could return for my stuff later.

One of the robbers spotted me before I could finish taking off my clothes and skis. He demanded I give up my coat, footwear, and skis. I picked up one of my knives and fought him for it... and lost. I waited several days before returning, and in the meantime made myself a new coat and footwear. (I was fortunate a herd of reindeer passed by my settlement. I trapped two of them.) I don't know how many days passed by exactly, but when I returned to the place where I was robbed and used tracking on the wilderness map, it said there were old human tracks. Old is good, right? So, I zoomed in. Sure enough, my stuff was still there, right where I'd left it.

And around the area were very fresh footprints I'd somehow missed when zoomed out. I couldn't zoom back out, so I dropped what little possessions I currently had and tried to take off my clothes too, lest I lose my brand-new fur coat. Unfortunately, one of the robbers shot at me before I could undress, and I was robbed of my coat and footwear again.

At least I know I can reclaim my things eventually. But these robbers are a pain.

Gameplay questions / Re: Animal Movement Around Water
« on: January 15, 2021, 06:27:39 PM »
Animals can despawn, as PALU said. I don't know the exact mechanics involved, but I would assume animals don't despawn from the current wilderness map tile. Nearby and/or recently-visited tiles (visited on the zoomed-in map) are probably reasonably safe as well. It's also possible for animals to spawn on islands, which setting traps allegedly influences (again, I don't know the exact mechanics, but it's beneficial so long as you don't upset the forest spirits).

Animals can't cross water if it means entering the water. I don't know about crossing water where the land is connected diagonally, but I would assume so. I've seen them pass through diagonal gaps in fences. If you're worried about animals escaping, just block their path with a trap.

Predation does exist in URW, so you could lose your prey to a predator, unlikely as it is. But, hey, predators are more valuable anyway!

It's early Center month, and it should go without saying that the weather has gotten perilous. Thankfully, I have warm fur clothing now. Bear fur! Not a full set, but enough for green warmth everywhere but head/face and neck. Drying and stockpiling huge amounts of fish really paid off. (It also cost me some other items, including a couple things I was more reluctant to part with, but it was worth it.)

Still nothing in my traps, not even the heavy deadfall trap I set up by fresh elk tracks (which was awhile back, and there's no sign of the elk anymore), until I caught sight of a lynx on the other side of the fence while fishing. Sure enough, the next morning, it was caught in a trap. Its skin is harsh quality (oops -- maybe throwing that axe at it was a bad idea), but it should still be worth a lot, as long as it doesn't get damaged more during tanning. (And winter furs are worth more, right?) I'm going to try and finally buy that silver bracelet from the nearby village so I can do the spirit of the forest quest, which has been on my quest list for three months now.

(EDIT: Seems I can't get the bracelet without giving up my hunting knife. Time to go do some bulk crafting, I guess.)

@LoLotov My goodness! I've never seen that before!

Suggestions / Re: Pouring two identical containers together.

I'm guessing the issue is similar to the code that prevents you buying a knife and using a knife as part of payment

Another thing I'd like to see fixed. Why can't I barter my old knife/axe/whatever when trading for a better one?

Bug reports / Animal tracks visible through floor
« on: January 14, 2021, 03:16:44 AM »
If you build "inside of a building" on a tile with visible tracks, the tracks persist. It isn't just graphical, you can still identify them by looking or using [t]racking.

This morning, I slipped and fell on the ice, bruised my knee, and broke my phone screen. This was after several minutes of wandering lost-ish in the cold.

Then my URW character fell out of a tree. Now she has to crawl through the snow, and she's woefully underdressed for the weather. Suddenly, my morning doesn't seem so bad.

Thankfully, I finished my cabin in time for winter, though I think I've angered the forest spirits with all my tree-chopping. I've seen almost no wildlife for months, besides a brief period of bird migration. My traps are empty. Food isn't a problem (I catch plenty of fish), but clothing... now that Dead month is here, my linen trousers, woolen undershirt, and birch-bark shoes and cap aren't nearly sufficient.

I wonder if it'd be worth using part of my shirt to make a pair of mittens (I have Rain's clothing mod). Though apparently I'm unable to do that while injured. Oh well. For now, I guess I'll hunker down, keep fishing, and sacrifice herbs daily hoping to appease the spirits.

EDIT: Trapped a squirrel just after posting this. Fancy that! Between that and the hare furs I recently bought, I can finally make myself some mittens!

Suggestions / Ask for confirmation before breaking village rules
« on: January 12, 2021, 06:19:14 PM »
I ran into a situation today where some villagers got annoyed with me for trying to make a paddle from one of their boards. I'd just bought a board from them and was still standing on the board pile (my bad I guess), and I didn't realize I wasn't using the board in my inventory until I got told off for using one I didn't own. And now they call me "annoying stranger".

My suggestion is to add a confirmation dialogue before using unowned items in crafting, with the option to use inventory items instead. Related to that, it would be nice if the game asked for confirmation for breaking any village rules, to warn players before they do things like pick plants within village bounds or leave with unpaid goods they forgot they were carrying. (Yes, I know villagers give you a fair chance to return anything, but it still hurts your reputation, IIRC.) Maybe this could be toggled on or off in settings so players who like to steal/kill/etc. don't get hassled for it (except for the villagers hassling them, of course).

Gameplay questions / Attacked by robbers. I have a couple questions.
« on: January 11, 2021, 01:49:41 PM »
Like the title says, robbers attacked me and took my stuff. I managed to kill one of the robbers before I fell unconscious, though, and I want to return and take his stuff (after giving the others time to leave the area -- fighting them is too risky). Is this doable? I also lost my reindeer along with my things. Is there any chance of finding my reindeer again, or is it gone for good?

Also, any tips on returning to where this happened would be appreciated. Can I track down where the robbers were somehow, or should I just take this as a lesson learned and leave a map marker pre-emptively next time?

Meadsweet beverage with spoiled food... I'll have to remember that, since I always hoard spoiled food in case of an emergency.

Went out hunting... ran into a njerp a few tiles away from my settlement. Now I can't walk. How fun.

(On the plus side, I thought I was a goner with how badly that fight was going, so yay for being alive?)

General Discussion / "Edible"
« on: May 16, 2019, 04:45:57 AM »
Just as it says on the tin... spoiled foods are, apparently, edible. (According to herblore, at least!)

IMO, it's interesting that nausea shows up on the herblore thing. Makes me wonder if it's possible to mod it in as a plant effect, or if it's strictly limited to spoiled foods.

It also makes the Noaidi's mushroom description a little more honest:

General Discussion / Re: How to get burn damage?

You can get burned by accident. I've never done it, but I can foresee it happening if you get careless while prepping fields.
