Bug reports / Lingonberry shrub rendered at the wrong location
« on: December 28, 2020, 04:01:09 AM »
Linux, Steam, version 3.63.

This particular shrub is rendered in the wrong location (one unit northward) when facing north. When facing W or NW, it is rendered correctly.

The look command correctly reports the tile as "You see a lingonberry..." even though the tile is shown as ground visually. Similarly, the look command correctly reports the tile as "ground" when it is rendered as a shrub.

It is the shrub next to the pine on the left side of the screen (near the cluster of shrubs, not the lone shrub in the left-bottom). The shrub is rendered at the right place if I take one step to the left. It is, however, still rendered incorrectly if I move down (south) by up to three tiles. If I moved down by four tiles, it is rendered correctly.

Gameplay questions / Re: 3.63 New fire mechanics

I experimented with smoking recently. I smoked 150 cuts of bear meat in my cabin and 34 cuts in a nearby village (~50 tiles away). I tried to go back to the cabin to burn 16 branches everyday. According to my notes, I missed the last couple of days.

In my cabin -- I ended up with ~90 cuts, which means 60 cuts were lost to spoilage. I don't know what happened to the cuts in the village. I didn't see them when I went back. Perhaps I picked them up and forgot to write it down. Perhaps they were lost to a glitch.

It is so much easier to dry meats during the winter. Smoking feel hardly worthwhile.

That is simply the message produced by the game when this happened. On the same "turn", my character was back on the punt.

Bug reports / [3.63] The ice breaks and you fall in the freezing water
« on: December 07, 2020, 05:26:23 PM »
I was on a punt. I dropped my items to lighten my weight penalties. Suddenly, I fall into the water. I must've done this hundreds of times, but this time, I got this message:

Code: [Select]
(143270):abgf:[#]{04D40535}      | Fishing options: Retrieve a net
(663333):abgf:[&]{04D40535}      | You start retrieving the net from the water...
(3C5A98):abgf:[:]{04D40535}      | Meanwhile, squirrel enters your view...
(147870):abgf:[?]{04D40535}      | Abort task?
(008000):abgf:[=]{04D40535}      | You caught 3 breams!
(575757):abgf:[_]{04D40535}      | The catch now awaits at your feet to be picked up.
(3C5A98):abgf:[:]{04D40535}      | You drop the fine fishing rod.
(A80000):abgf:[!]{04D40535}      | The ice breaks and you fall in the freezing water!
(3C5A98):abgf:[:]{04D40535}      | You feel bitterly cold.
(663333):abgf:[&]{04D40535}      | You swim at ease.
(3C5A98):abgf:[:]{04D40535}      | You drop the net.
(143270):abgf:[#]{04D40535}      | Using: FISHING
(143270):abgf:[#]{04D40535}      | Fishing options: Retrieve a net

Is this a bug or is it normal to fall off your punt?

General Discussion / You hear Koivula robbers singing to the west
« on: December 04, 2020, 05:43:43 PM »
It was early winter morning and all was dark but my torchlight. I was leaving my home base, a Koivula village, to start my day of fishing and trapping when I got the message "You hear Koivula robbers singing to the west". This is the first time I've seen this message. I hurried back into the village to hide until the day is bright enough to see around me.

The curious thing is that the village was only two tiles west of where I heard the message. I wonder what it implies... :)

Doing a bit digging in the message logs, it seems that each message is tagged with its location.
Code: [Select]
(000000):s8ge:[T]{042A04DA}      | The mallard seems alert.
(3C5A98):s8ge:[:]{042A04DA}      | You go on shore.
(000000):s8ge:[T]{042A04DA}      | The mallard seems alert.

This allowed me to narrow down the map square of the punt. It turned out to be within an inland lake.

Somehow, moving over the zoomed out map allows your punt to sail over a land bridge. However, when in the zoomed-in mode, the land bridge will be present.

This is not intuitive when you're following the shoreline to look for a place where you "last went on shore". In this case, following the shoreline will never get you to that location.

Not bugs / [Solved. Not a bug.] Tracking down a missing punt
« on: March 18, 2018, 12:26:53 AM »
I cannot find my punt. Is there a way to search the save game data for where it is? While I can just craft a raft and move on. It drives me crazy to not know where my punt is.
