If you're at work and you're given some time wasting assignment that you hate, you do it because you're getting paid. If you're playing a game and you're given some time wasting assignment that you hate, but you're not getting paid and there's no penalty for not doing it and you could ignore it and do something you really enjoy instead, like fighting njerpez or building a really big house or whatever your favourite part of the game is...

You don't have to do the quest. You can get the reputation increase through gifts instead. The 100 squirrel hides reward is pretty neat but if the village has something you want to buy, you could just buy it with the spoils of your hunting or your conquest.

even if it doesn't connect to your eyeball itself, the area near your eyes is really sensitive. A few weeks ago, I was carrying my cat and his foot touched a book I was also carrying and he panicked and clawed my face, missing my eye by about a milimetre. I was only slightly injured, but I until I looked in a mirror, I was sure he'd clawed the eye itself. It was surprisingly painful for days afterwards, my whole eye socket felt bruised.

Gameplay questions / Re: Sage questions...

Each of your wounds has a colour associated with it, about how fast the wound will heal. Dark red wounds will heal very slowly, dark green will heal quickly. When you get sage healing, it changes the colour associated with the wound by a little bit, but there is a limit to how much better the sage can make it, and it is different for different injuries. For example with frostbite, the best you can do on your own is yellow, but the sage can make it olive green. You'll really notice the sage's help if you get poisoned. If you visit a sage immediately after getting deathly poisoned (it'll say deathly poisoned, not just poisoned), you can survive 1/3 of the time by getting the sage to heal you until the colour stops changing. You'll have to stay in the village for a few days and get multiple healings per day.

I haven't tried it, but flatbread is probably sufficient, since it's the only kind of bread you can make without modding.

Don't know about the spear, but I guess it would be calculated as decent because that's what it was worth when you gave it to him. One way to test this would be to wait until the last day, give him a spear, see if he is happy to keep stuff, then get into a fight in which his spear degrades (this might take a few companions to arrange), and then see if he is still happy.

Only the act of blocking reduces the weapon's rating. Animals can't block, they can only dodge so no matter how you use your weapon against animals, it won't degrade. If your dodge skill is lower than your weapon skill and you are getting injured, it is worth it to block instead of dodging. Better to ruin your weapon than to lose your life. Metal weapons degrade too, but more slowly. A handaxe can do a lot of damage against a wooden club, so your club will degrade quickly. I think wood can't degrade metal at all, but metal can degrade metal.

Solved'n'fixed bug reports / Re: [3.60 stable linux] Everlasting dog bone
« on: February 12, 2020, 05:09:01 PM »
Some more info about this: all bones below a certain size are everlasting. dogs, badgers, hares, foxes, their bones last forever. elks, forest reindeer, humans, their bones get eaten up.

General Discussion / Re: No Finnish version?
« on: February 06, 2020, 09:03:48 AM »
Ooh that would be fun. I don't know very much finnish but I enjoy the few words that i have picked up through the game, like metsä, taival, virta

I'll confirm that I've noticed this too, they all think that any villages they know about belong to their own culture.

Gameplay questions / Re: Rope used up

The update means you don't have to micromanage it at all anymore (unless you want to do what Acolyte does, but that's a lot less fiddly than what we used to have to do).

Early in the game before I can afford cords I've been using the new withes. They each hold 8 pieces but if I have a bunch of them in my inventory then I can do batches of up to 48 meats at once, or any multiple of 8 below 50.

Suggestions / Flooding
« on: January 19, 2020, 11:40:11 PM »
I live near a river and every spring the water level rises quite high, it would flood if we hadn't built such a high bank around it. If it doesn't rain for a while, the water level drops.

It would be interesting if the areas of low elevation collected water after rains and the shores of the rivers changed. It would be dangerous to build your shelter too close to the river if it was raining a lot, you'd have to build on higher ground. Valleys between mountains would also flood suddenly if there was a lot of rain.

Gameplay questions / Re: How long in game?
« on: January 19, 2020, 09:51:30 AM »
You can look at the first and last line of msglog.txt, for example my character Nousia:

Code: [Select]
first line:
(143270):1bg8:[#]{06DF0653}      | Zooming in ...
last line:
(008000):pcgb:[=]{06EA06A9}      | Your character has been saved.

"1bg8" and "pcgb" is the key here, the format is day-month-year-hour, and the numbers start using letters after 9, so I started the game on the 1st day of the bth month (11th = November = Dead month) of the gth year (16th - the character is 16 years old) at 8am, and now it is the pth day (9+16 = 25th day of the cth month (12th = December) of the same year, and it is b o'clock (11am).

My character Pekka started on the first of April (swidden) year 16
Code: [Select]
(143270):14g8:[#]{06700281}      | Zooming in ...
And now it is the 17th of November (dead) of the same year
Code: [Select]
(008000):hbga:[=]{06080060}      | Your character has been saved.

This happened to me too since the fix and I forgot to report it or make a save

Suggestions / Re: [Suggestion] Metric measurements
« on: January 14, 2020, 07:49:38 PM »
That's a good point, Palu. I forgot that we have kilometres on the worldmap. So I've changed my mind and now I think it would best to be able to toggle and have kilograms and centimetres as well

Probably it is best to imagine "1 ft" to mean "a bit of cord about as long as your literal foot" rather than "exactly 30.48cm", just like we have "small hours" instead of "4:32 am" and pounds as "about a half kilo"

284
I can also confirm this, it's been like this for a long time.

Since the game was made by Europeans I think it's more likely that the reason we don't have metric measurements is that metric measurements hadn't been invented in the iron age.
