Suggestions / Re: Point and click start location
« on: November 03, 2020, 05:32:36 PM »
I've been attempting the Island Challenge for awhile now and can't seem to land on small enough island to make it a real challenge. If not this, then it'd be nice if it were made into its own starting scenario so we wouldn't have to discard so many starts after finally discovering that we didn't land where we intended.

Gameplay questions / Re: Anyone ever clear out Njerp territory?
« on: September 22, 2019, 05:18:40 PM »
I've only managed clearing out about half the Njerp territory before I have so much wealth that it's no longer worth it to me to keep playing the character. Mostly, I'd live off the spoils while my wounds healed and then whittle another settlement down until it was manageable to go in and clear those remaining in one fell swoop since I could never persuade a companion (other than my livestock and dogs) to accompany me when I really needed them. With my last attempt at this, I was razing villages and using the building materials to set up my own city that was centrally located.

This time around, I'm just playing a farmer/fisherman/gatherer and dealing with wandering warriors as they turn up. It's actually more fun this way since I have to plan ahead and get by on the meager resources at hand. I think my little dog might be getting tired of eating lake-reed flatbread, though. He doesn't complain, but there's a certain look in his eye.  :D

Gameplay questions / Re: Keep live stag or deer inside fence
« on: September 13, 2019, 08:40:43 PM »
I used to trap reindeer/elk in the summer, fence them in and wait for cold weather so I could dry the meat. Now, they've started dying on me for some reason. I don't know if something has changed or if it's because my recent fences are in close proximity to my settlement instead of several world tiles away.

Modding / Re: Modding Repetitive Tasks

This is mostly to cut down on keystrokes when preparing soil for planting. I suppose I could use your bundling system and remove a measure of weight instead of a number, though.

I've used a bundling system for arrows for a few years now since I accumulate them quite rapidly and use them as my currency. I've also made bales of leather, fur, nettle, linen and wool, and stack them in one of my various smoke houses I have scattered across the world for when I need to repair/craft clothing, etc. I thought about doing the same with iron, but it didn't seem logical so I usually make wrought iron out of those items or trade them off as is for more portable currency.

I haven't checked out the BAC in quite some time since I've been super busy with RL stuff. It looks like you've done quite a bit with it. As soon as I get some free time, I'll try to incorporate it in with my own mods and see what changes I need to make to my mods for compatibility. With any luck, I'll be able to contribute something more to the BAC.

Modding / Modding Repetitive Tasks
« on: August 17, 2019, 07:16:58 PM »
I don't know if anyone else has already done something like this, but I couldn't find anything like it so I thought I would share.

Because I was wearing myself and my keyboard out prepping my large fields, I came up with this to save a few keystrokes:

.Drop branches. "Branch" (4) /.1/ \2h\ [noquality]
{Branch} (4) [remove]
[NAME:Branch]

I added the \2h\ bit because it kept picking them off the ground instead of from my inventory and I wanted to give myself plenty of time in case I needed to gather more branches to continue.

I've placed it in diy_myTemp.txt that I use for testing things until I figure out a more suitable spot for it. Now I can just 'r' instead of going through the whole 'drop' routine for every single tile.

There might be other uses for this as a template elsewhere, too.

Hope it helps someone else out as much as has me.

Gameplay questions / Re: Crappy tools can't do much
« on: August 15, 2019, 07:08:13 PM »
I started my most recent character with the runaway slave scenario in winter and only barely managed to escape with my life. Without even decent clothing, I spent most of my time hovering around tree trunks I'd set fire to to keep from freezing to death. Barely being able to stand and not having the full use of my arms, I lived on withering berries and club fishing until my wounds healed up enough that I could wear an elk down through sheer persistence. Then I picked up a nearby stone and bashed his head in. After that initial kill, I had everything I needed to make warm clothing, a few loop snares, and had plenty of meat to start trading for better and better tools. I crafted lots and lots of arrows, too, along the way and am now flush with wealth.

The easiest way I've found to search coniferous forests and spruce mires is to climb a tree near where you first zoom in or else it is really tedious.

Suggestions / Falling suggestion.
« on: July 08, 2019, 07:51:47 PM »
I've noticed that whenever my character falls when climbing, they always land on their feet just like a cat. It would be nice if they fell prone most of the time and had to pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and try again.

And on the subject of falling, I don't think any of my characters have ever slipped and fallen down even once no matter how bad they are at skiing. I've had my share of spills in real life and think it would add to the realism if I didn't have to deliberately fall down on my own every now and again just to keep things real.  ;)

I ran onto a wild boar a few days ago. He was alone just like in previous versions.

I think I'll just grab a feather, make a quill, and do it all long hand on the backs of hides.

But, first, my character will have to learn to read and then teach everyone else.

* * * * *

To keep unwanted things out of my stuff, I just build a rock wall around my settlement. It takes 4 hours for each tile. I have a lot of down time, though, since I've already razed eight Njerpez settlements with the character I'm running now and have more stuff than I could ever hope to use. That'll teach that lone warrior who killed my little dog who was only protecting me!

Spoiler: show

.Big Rock.  "Barrier Fence" [effort:3] [phys:stance,one-armed] *BUILDING* /4h/ |+2|
{Stone} (10) [remove][ground]
{Rock} (20) [remove][ground] '+for chinking'
{Shovel}

Mod Releases / Re: Brygun's Added Items
« on: December 23, 2018, 05:57:58 PM »
Yeah, I just tested it and both "cord" and "Cord" work as "Tying equipment" so the problem was most likely something else I tweaked. I'll keep playing around with it and see if I can figure out what went wrong...er, right.

Also, for some reason I'm not able to use any cords for the .Sewn bark hull. step. What could be the issue? I even made the vanilla cords to no avail. Are cords not Tying Equipment?

Erm... i thought Tying Equipment meant all types of cords and ropes from vanilla plus any mod with those as base objects

If thats not the case Ill have to rethink some things.

I ran into the same thing and can't remember exactly where the problem was since I have so many different mods installed along with my own silly creations, but one or more of the base items was written as "cord" instead of "Cord". I changed them all to the latter and it fixed the issue for me.

Modding / Re: Eh? Can't get code to work
« on: December 10, 2018, 10:04:46 PM »
I remember having this same issue back when I first started learning to mod and found that whenever I made a change to my menudef, diy and cookery files it automatically made a hidden backup which was screwing up all of my menus by making duplicates. I deleted those and it cleaned everything right up.
