Gameplay questions / Re: How do I build wealth
« on: August 06, 2020, 08:25:37 PM »
It's not that I hate hunting I actually do enjoy it I just want to try to be a Craftsmen during winter time since I have nets and a cellar full of smoked fish I need to eat sooner or later anyways. I just don't know what to craft for selling and what to buy as currency.

Gameplay questions / How do I build wealth

I know the board thing has been justifiably nerfed but is their any way for me to accumulate enough wealth to buy big things like dogs or nets or fine weapons etc other than hunting or quests or theft? I'd like to be able to play as a Craftsmen of some sort, building useful goods I'm my cabin during the winter. What are some things I can make and what kind of goods should I use as a currency. Like for instance if I have a decent haul of food and cant process it all or just don't need it but it's not enough for something good, I'll trade it for a knife. I have a 3 or 4 normal knives saved up but idk if that's really a good currency option.

I'm not him self promoting I'm just trying to show some support to someone keeping the game alive. He's 10 episodes in to a series and seems to be having a hard time figuring out what to do and I'm hoping some better players can me can hop in that comments section and help him out.

What I mean is would say a seal tribe village value seal meat the same way a member of a southern fishing based tribe does and likewise would a safe value an arrow the same way a hunter would. Pretty sure the villagers don't but not sure about different tribes. If not, then they should. A tribe that survived primarily on fishing and farming should value furs and hide more than a primarily hunter tribe and a hunting tribe should value vegetables more than other farmer tribes. And obviously there are going to be some hunters and some farmers in every tribe so I'm not saying there shouldn't be any vegetables available in a hunting tribe village just that on average they should have a lower supply and higher demand if it's not a focus of their way of life. It would be cool to live as a caravaneer traveling the lands trading hides and valuables like livestock or tools in exchange for supplies you then take to far off lands to trade for more valuable trade goods.

Recently I was on my way back from an unsuccessful hunting trip and was coming up to the peninsula my cabin is built on when I encountered a bull elk. I zoomed in but it was very late and I couldn't see him so I gave up on it. I got back home and went to stoke the sauna stove because I have a giant pile of meat smoking while my new dog ate from his pile of reindeer bones. As I was doing this, a bull elk appeared in the cabin directly next to me. I paused for a second. I thought it was gonna attack me and tried to yell at it but it just stood there. So I did the only logical thing and closed the door behind him and order my dog to attack before stabbing it to death with my spear. I've spent multiple in-game days chasing rabbits to no avail and suddenly a 400 lb moose just wanders in to my living room lol

Idk the history and am too lazy to do my research but it would be interesting if there was a language factor that limited your interactions with tribes other than your own unless you could learn the language from a safe or something. Like imagine all the normal tribes people couldn't understand you or had limited dialogue options but their sage may be able to communicate with you and by doing a quest or 3 for him could teach you the local language so that you could get more interaction from the rest of the tribe. It'd be cool because it would make you more tangibly connected to your own tribe and more of an outsider to others. All of this is irrelevant if the real tribes of Finland had a common language but it's an interesting concept none the less.

In order to get skins, you need to do it from the hideworking menu before you start butchering.

I've killed 3 squirrels by treeing them and then throwing rocks at them to knock them out and then kicking their head. I haven't gotten a single leather from them. I used a broad knife to skin them. Idk if it's the tool I'm using or the hunting method I use to kill them or what.
