Gameplay questions / Re: Bird thief quest; thief won't turn himself in?
« on: August 23, 2020, 02:44:13 PM »
I followed the ritual instructions to the letter; threw 3 feathers from the stolen bird on the coals of a burnt-out fire I made on base rock (a mountain, in that case). I'm stumped. I'll try again, I suppose.

Gameplay questions / Bird thief quest; thief won't turn himself in?
« on: August 23, 2020, 02:24:58 PM »
I've completed the two main steps of the bird thief quest more than three weeks ago (finding the traps and feathers, doing the ritual). It seems to have worked (as in, I got an option to tell the quest giver that I did the ritual and then we proceeded to the next bit), and every day the quest giver tells me that the thief still hasn't turned himself in and that we might have better luck tomorrow.

I backed up my save with three days left on the quest clock, and I'm glad I did because the quest actually expired without the thief having ever turned himself in. What gives? Is it just luck of the draw? I completed the quest properly (or so it seemed to me) with tons of time to spare, can it just ... fail by itself?

Any help appreciated

Not bugs / Re: [3.63] Incorrect 3D sound positioning
« on: August 21, 2020, 10:34:27 PM »
Ahhh, thanks, that makes a lot of sense! It's good to know that it's not a bug, even if I don't personally think it's a very wise design choice, since the game has the screen fixed in place and that's the referential people would likely naturally go with.

Not bugs / [3.63] "NUMPAD 0" registering as "0"
« on: August 21, 2020, 10:23:36 PM »
Version: Unreal World 3.63, Steam build, modded

What happened: Rarely, pressing "NUMPAD 0" acts as if pressing "0" (kick), bringing up the "Where To Kick" prompt menu.

What's expected: "NUMPAD 0" should always register as "NUMPAD 0".

Steps to reproduce: Hit "NUMPAD 0" several times in rapid succession or keep it pressed down, the kick prompt should appear eventually.

Notes: Interval between two misregistered keypresses is very inconsistent, it can take 1 to 10 seconds of holding down the key for the prompt to appear with a Keyboard character repeat set to short delay and fast repeat rate.

Not bugs / [3.63 - not a bug] Incorrect 3D sound positioning
« on: August 21, 2020, 10:11:50 PM »
Version: Unreal World 3.63, Steam build, modded

What happened: Sometimes, a wild sow grunting in the west has the grunt sound effect play in the right ear, or a dog barking in the north east will have the bark sound effect play in the left ear.

What's expected: The sound origin should match the animal position in space.

Steps to reproduce: Have not attempted to reproduce.

Mod Releases / Re: [3.63] [3.62] URWCharacterMenu v1.0.3c
« on: August 20, 2020, 09:29:37 AM »
The CharacterMenu was crashing every time when attempting to launch it earlier. It seems to have something to do with injuries, and I had a bleeding, deep cut in the neck with an almost full injury bar to it at the time (see picture at the bottom of the post). Here's the crash report;

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I've seen your post but I'm at a loss, really. I don't even know if you could use something like URWCharacterMenu to your advantage here. The only thing I can think of is to actually track him down with his footprints, but I see you've tried that and it was probably already too late by then. RIP adventurer, taken by the forest.

23
6 squirrel hides * 8 value = 48

2 small knives * 24 value = 48

Checks out!

I've also noticed the same thing in my game, so it's not a localized issue. Reproducing the issue would probably be trivial.

24
Tracking on the travel map is really notoriously unreliable. Even at 100 skill, you can actually fail to pick up tracks that you've seen on the zoomed-in map not 10 seconds ago. I tend to savescum these quests and create a restore point to give myself some insurance and plenty of time to search. Even then it's super tedious, but I found that zooming on each tile and then climbing the nearest tall tree gives you a solid chance of noticing tracks and/or the animal itself while being relatively quick to execute (climbing is also super easy to grind to a high level). All that's left is to be patient.

Bug reports / Re: [3.63 - Steam] Force transaction?
« on: August 17, 2020, 07:00:17 PM »
I had the same issue. It was a stack of 143 roasted elk cuts that I had sold them previously, but when I came back to the village later, the stack was showing as 143 roasted elk cuts (taken), regardless of if it was on the floor or in my inventory, and the villagers were asking me to pay for it. I did try to grab and drop the stack several times to remove the tag, but it stayed. Removing the stack from my inventory using URWCharacterMenu didn't remove it from the pending transactions either.

Gameplay questions / Re: Can't find a mace for sale?
« on: August 15, 2020, 07:01:42 PM »
Maces haven't been uncommon in Villages in my playthroughs, but for some reason they don't spawn inside the buildings, they actually spawn outside on the ground, on top of a stone. I've seen them in Kaumo, Reemi, Kiesse and Driik, so I don't think they're specific to one type of culture.

Just keep an eye out when you walk around a village; if you see what looks like a club on the ground, it's always often a mace. It can spawn a fine or masterwork mace as usual, but maces just have that specific spawn quirk. I think the justification as to why they spawn outside is that the mace & stone are supposed to emulate the club & flat surface that the player needs to tan hides.

27
Ah, they did not eat the bait though.

General Discussion / Re: Which game update you are looking forward to?
« on: August 07, 2020, 04:15:02 PM »
I'd love for more quests with better variety to them, the different shades of "find a needle in a haystack" aren't really doing it for me and tend to leave me wanting for more.

Better modding support would also be great. I don't think you can really fully rely on the modding community to make the game for you, but with better tools to control recipes, buildings, and menu arborescence, in both creating new stuff and being able to modify existing features, I know modders would have a field day.

29
I've caught several birds with rotten roasted meat as bait, so maybe that's changed?

Gameplay questions / Re: Have you bought a hunting horn?

I don't know if buying all their items helps, but maybe it's worth a try.
