Gameplay questions / Re: 3.63 New fire mechanics
« on: February 11, 2021, 07:17:10 PM »
I did it, and to my surprise, was stolen by villagers.
I guess this should be considered a fee for using their sauna. Honestly, the whole village can't take a proper bath becouse of some stranger smoking his meat in there!

Gameplay questions / Re: Are Map tiles eventually cleared?
« on: February 11, 2021, 07:09:03 PM »
I wonder if that 'clearing zoom files'-trick could be used to flush out modded, outdated flora? (Flora with different specifications than those found in current flora*.txt files.)
I would recommend not to mess with save files (or even manual map maintenance, @rudy). Without a backup, at least. I once got my save broken after hitting 7 (can't recall though, was it 3.62 of 3.63). And once I played with ZOOM*.DAT files, and somehow literally wiped two settlements out of the world.

AFAIK, the game performs map maintenance automatically, when it's really needed.

Just remembered of a Poland band Stworz. Guys play atmospheric/pagan black metal, mixed with neofolk. Albums Na trzy strony Słońca and Słońcakres, as opposed to Thulêan Mysteries, makes me perceive the game's world as a significally lighter and fairier place.

It feels the best when your character is busy with any peaceful activity like building, fishing, agriculture, etc. A good way to pass an hour, being completely calm and easy.

Another try. No food, no luck, 15% starved. Felt so desperate that killed and butchered an innocent adventurer.

Spoiler: MMMM TASTY • show

That was so good... But spirits punished Fjari with madness for her misdeed, and a couple days later she killed herself.

So, after a pretty long pause I started a new Owl-tribe huntress character (like usual, hehe). Found a nice place to live for a month or two in order to gather meat and furs and stuff supply before starting to wander around the world. A couple weeks later spotted wolf tracks nearby, set a trap. The next day a wolf got into it, and I hurried to kill it. But I forgot about an important fact... a wolf is never alone.

Stories / Re: Skervaldr, the Remi hunting trial
« on: February 11, 2021, 10:52:24 AM »
I hope you enjoyed my little story and it inspire your next ones . ::)

Please tell me if you want how can I improve my gameplay and storytelling, since I am noob yet hehe or demand more stories if you want and I'll to do few more may be with drawings too or other images than the screenshots if you like it.
Good story! And it's always joy to see new storytellers and tales here. Especially with drawings! Write more, if you're really into it, no reason to quit.

As for gameplay, I would suggest you using traps. Even if your next chatacter's trapping skill won't be as great as Skervaldr's had been, there's always chance to catch something.

As for writing, you can start with re-reading the text before posting, and fixing misspelled words :) . I've noticed some. You can also use DeepL to make translating your thoughts into English easier (however, it supports a pretty limited amount of languages at the moment).

As an example of well-written stories (or at least ones I do like a lot) you can check out Jutta's Tale: The Bog Mother, Jutta's Tales: The Story Teller, Bloodied Snow. Or maybe read mine, hehe.

Suggestions / Re: get lost
« on: February 11, 2021, 10:14:42 AM »
But even if I toggle out the cultural regions, but my characters GPS navigator is way too sophisticated on the mainscreen (see picture).
I've developed a habit to only look there when my character is in a settlement. And when searching for another settlement, based upon info given by villagers. However, imo it's always much better to have an in-game option rather than a habit.

This is similar/related suggestion
So, there's at least four of us, guys who prefer to be really lost in wilderness :) .

Suggestions / ‘Toggle off cultural regions on F6 map by default’ option
« on: February 10, 2021, 08:21:55 PM »
It would be nice to have such an option in the game's settings. I guess I'm not the only one, who prefers playing a bit more hardcore, and not knowing where exactly you are and where exactly to head in order to get to people, is a part of this play style.

Yep, I know, I can just close my eyes before pressing F6 and then hit ‘C’... but sometimes, having to do this annoys me a little.

Burzum makes really good ambient music as well, if you liked the newer albums I can definitely suggest Alcest,it is not really a pagan-folk group, but it is a popular group you might have heard of it. Amesoeurs makes a little softer music but I think they are great as well.Les Discrets are similar to Amesoeurs as well. That was a lot of French bands for someone who is not from France. ;D

Got the first two in my record library. Gonna check out Les Discrets, never heard of them, thanks. I also like Gris, they're French too. I do enjoy French black metal bands generally, they've got pretty unique sounding.

Woods of Ypres really has some bangers as well "I Was Buried In Mount Pleasant Cemetery" and "Traveling Alone" are my favourites.
Another entry goes into my list of music to listen!

One Finnish group that I'm listening is called Tenhi, I don't really understand the lyrics but they are really nice songs slow, soft. My favourite is "Pojan Kiiski" I think the song is about a boy and his fish but I dunno, it is cool though.
Whoaa, Tenhi. Absolutely love their first album Kauan! Also, there's Russian band named Kauan after this very album. Their music's pretty close to Tenhi's, yet not too similar.

In order for me to listen any music, it needs a distorted or overdriven guitar and that's pretty much all it needs. :P
Literally me, hehe.

By the way, I've got a Telegram channel where I write about black metal and stuff. If you want, I can PM you a link. It's in Russian, but in order to listen to music you'll only need to click links :D .

The other day I came across the latest Burzum album Thulêan Mysteries. Not only is it a staggering mix of ambient, pagan folk and post-black (not sure though, I'm not quite good at identifying genres), but also it fits playing, and intensifies immersion, and makes UrW feel a little differently. Solemner, more frightening, more enigmatic.

What music do you listen to while wandering the unreal land? And does it change the usual feeling of the game?

Fiddled around with Wine but wasn't able to get it to run the program.

I guess Wine isn't the only solution, it's just the only I've heard of. Another way I know of is VirtualBox. It lets you create a Windows virtual machine and run necessary win-apps inside the VM.

Watching this story from the beginning. Completely crazy. But also quite sobering and freeing from delusions.

Here is the best situation summary I've read. Adapted from Russian, so I'm sorry for probable mistakes.

Spoiler: show
So, the redditors ‘attack’ has evidently revealed there is NO STOCK MARKET at all. Instead, there is something, suspiciously similar to an entertainment complex: here are bookmakers accepting bets on horse races (constantly being manipulated by the complex owners), here is a poker house full of hustlers, here is a casino, where roulettes are being cheated with magnets and some of players are employees. And, sure, the entertainment complex is ruled by some kind of mafia, and is protected by committees and law-writers. Sometimes you're allowed to win, but big wins go to fakers. No one is going to let a stranger systematically win in here. You're going to be pressed out or locked up. Note how exactly SEC acts in this case: they blame redditors only, as if the hedge fonds don't take any part in what's happening at all.

What's happening right now means everything we learned from textbooks about stocks and derivatives trading can be flushed down the toilet. Everything we knew about the money management turned out to be bullshit. You can as well base your investment strategy upon making bets on soccer championship games, half of them fixed. Any kind of analysis now looks clownery, as cheesy as an astrologer prognosis in a cheap magazine or fortune-telling on coffee grounds. Sometimes it just coincide with reality, no more than that.

Relatively winning strategy now looks like this: you've got an inside info. And the only truly winning strategy is this: you've got an inside, you've got enough resources, you've got a market collusion, and you've got protection. Anything else is just fairytales for plebes.

Bug reports / Re: Horrendous Visual Bug
« on: February 06, 2021, 06:42:28 PM »
It looks like something that should happen when a character gets his eyes injured badly, which results in dramatical decreasing of vision range. And as soon as the wounds heal a bit, vision becomes clear. Has your character been hurt recently?
