If you drop the villagers' items outside, they'll pick them up. It can be very hard to track them down again, though *usually* the item will be in someone's inventory.

Just make sure to drop their items inside and they'll always stay there - it seems that items in buildings are treated much the same way as items that belong to you - that is, the villagers won't touch them at all.

Personally, I like to go through the village looking for things I want, then put everything I've found into the northeasternmost building - that way it'll still be there, even if I leave and come back.

General Discussion / Holy Treasure, Batman!

Just found a treasure for the first time - 2 masterwork handaxes, 2 masterwork leather boots, 4 superior lynx-furs, 2 bags of barley-flour, and 2 pieces of bronze jewelry!  ;D ;D ;D

That's way, way more valuable than any other quest reward I've gotten - is this the normal amount in a treasure cache?

I have found wolves to be *much* more dangerous than bears - they travel in packs, so you're up against 1-2 at a time, constantly; once you land a decent hit on one, it'll flee and another one takes its place. They're not usually as aggressive as bears, but I've lost more than one character to a hungry wolfpack in late winter  :'(

The stat increase increases all your stats across the board by +1, but I'm not sure what it does for stats that are already at max - I'm assuming nothing, but not sure - it may be that it does increase the value, but still displays the same.

You can check to make sure this happens by taking a screengrab of your character profile screen before and comparing it to the result screen.

General Discussion / Re: Luckiest kill?

Been dealing with some serious predator problems at my homestead - a lynx, a couple of foxes, and now a pack of wolves. The foxes have gone for my traps, but the lynx and wolves seem to be uninterested, so I'm trying to hunt them down before they manage to pick off my final bull (I had three bulls and a cow when this whole fiasco started).

Just made a max-range bow shot to the eye of a wolf! And my bow skill is only in the 60s, though it's helped by my fine longbow and superior broadhead arrows  ;D

General Discussion / Telling Furs Apart
« on: June 15, 2017, 05:05:47 PM »
Does anyone have a good system for telling one fur from another? I have furs that won't stack together, so clearly some are winter furs and others are summer furs, but I don't know which is which.

From what I've read, they are equivalent for crafting but very different in value, so I'd rather not waste a winter fur on crafting. For the ones I've got, I expect I'll have to drag them to a village and seeing what they fetch in trade, but for the future - how do you guys keep track?

Gameplay questions / Re: dog food. what do they eat?
« on: June 13, 2017, 09:37:32 PM »
I don't think they'll eat a whole carcass, except for fish (which are treated differently by the game). You have to butcher the animal, and then they'll eat the cuts of meat regardless of preparation (raw, cooked, dried, etc) or state (fresh, stale, spoiled).

It's only wild predators that won't eat cooked meat - dogs have no problem with it.

Suggestions / Directions to a sage
« on: June 13, 2017, 06:59:43 PM »
Would love to have the option to ask directions to a sage. Many smaller settlements don't have a sage living there, but it seems to me like people of this time would have known where the nearest sage lived, in much the same way that frontier towns in America may not have had a doctor, but the townsfolk knew that there was Doctor Jones two towns over for when someone was seriously ill.

Gameplay questions / Re: Dude, where's my car?
« on: June 12, 2017, 07:45:36 PM »
I usually make a marker when I drop things - it's very useful indeed.

And if I don't, I usually remember to pick up my stuff after I'm done fighting.

And if I don't, I usually realize PDQ that I forgot my stuff, so I can fairly easily get back to it by checking 3 or 4 tiles.

But this time I didn't do any of those things. Good to know there's a way to home in on it again. That character's dead of starvation following a bandit attack, but I'll keep it in mind for next time.

Gameplay questions / Dude, where's my car?
« on: June 09, 2017, 08:30:33 PM »
So, I dropped all of my stuff on the local map when I unexpectedly encountered an Njerp. And after I killed him, I took off without picking it back up. I didn't even realize what I'd done until I went to a village to trade.  :'(

Any tips for finding it? I've tried looking again in the general area where it happened, but I can't remember exactly where it was. I know if I could zoom in on the right tile from the wilderness map I'd be right next to his body and my stuff, but after 2 game days I still haven't managed it.

Gorgeous! I particularly like the shaman from 21 October - very cool.

The ink-wash look really captures the feel of the game for me - kind of a hazy look back into prehistory. Thanks for sharing!

Suggestions / Interacting with Foreign Traders
« on: June 06, 2017, 09:10:40 PM »
I find it very difficult to keep track of foreign traders - there are usually 6 of them, wandering all over the place, while I'm lugging around 200 lbs of furs at 1 km/hr. It would be great if attempting to trade with one of them would bring all of them over to talk, and even better if they would stay still after they get to you. Ideally a pack of them would offer items from a shared inventory, but that would probably involve a pretty major rework.

Also, I'm open to suggestions as to how other people keep up with who's got what items to sell?

It's definitely a realistic touch. And I agree with you, @PALU - but I'd probably be Ready to Drop by noon if I spent the day chopping down trees and splitting them into boards  ;D

It was plain good quaint mushroom, and happily consumed too. XD
