General Discussion / Re: Companions won't fell trees, why?
« on: March 22, 2021, 08:28:21 PM »
IF you are playing an older version, have you mounted a bear's skull (by the ritual) anywhere near where you are trying to have him fell trees? Because the older versions don't allow him to cut trees near the sacred bear skull tree.

I had this same problem a good while back and I fixed it by moving the bear skulls to a good distance away. The determination on the cause of the bug was clarified by Sami.

Some impressive hours there ;D. Do you guys play for that actively or just have the game running on the background, I tend to do that quite often. The game is running, I play some turns alt-tab back to whatever else I'm doing, and repeat the cycle.

And even then I only have 300hrs :o

I run 5 characters and cycle through them to keep the play fresh. Every hour logged is from play. I have over 3 thousand hours on Skyrim...heh, my wife calls herself a "computer widow". lol

Certainly no milestone for the oldest hands here, but, I've now logged over one thousand hours in the Unreal World. What a great game!

Masterwork or even Fine skramasaksi are rare. Even finding decent ones are far and out on most of my world gens.

I don‘t recall seeing Fine ango, but the decent ones usually are available in the archipelago.

Aye, I should have put this one on my list, too I've found but a single Masterwork Skramasaksi, and that only recently.

3 Njerp vs me and five dogs. Lost two dogs, two superior arrows and I took an ax to the eye. These Njerp groups have certainly made the Unreal World seem more precarious. They all had bastard swords so I can replace the dogs without cost, but, it's going to require some travel.

With four characters that have traveled very widely, the hardest things to find have been an ango and a big bull. I find a lot of bulls but, so far, only a single big bull. The spear I've seen a few times but it was never up for trade. This scarcity seems to be across the board because none of my characters has found the spear and only one has ever seen a big bull.

Contrariwise, I recently sought out the Forest spirit again with my oldest character and, though I was told he was happy he told me that the trails would not open to me anymore and there would be no game. I think that's his way of saying 'Don't get greedy!'.

Gameplay questions / Re: Does killing dogs have consequences?
« on: February 23, 2021, 07:10:17 PM »
I have camp close to village, and noticed some dogs wandering there, stealing my food (they were probably from village(?)). So I decided to kill them.
Is there any way villagers can know about this and become hostile to me because of it? Or can I feel safe?

There is the possibility that the dogs belonged to a hunter or even a Njerp. I've caught dogs from both. They don't seem to care that their dogs are dead because they never come looking for them. Their dogs range very widely from their masters.

Superior Winter Lynx is the Visa card of furs. Don't leave the shelter without it! (or a buttload of fine arctic fox furs)

Seriously though, for the most expensive items, the traders won't be able to carry enough of a load to accept a lot of decent/fine quality bear and elk furs in exchange. Unlike the villagers, they can't drop the excess on the ground and carry on.

And, if you think that trade was awkward, wait until you find the trader with a Masterwork Long Hauberk!

Bug reports / Re: Severely wounded dogs, not eating.
« on: February 18, 2021, 01:40:33 PM »
That's not truly a bug, but an oddity of the game. A severely wounded dog will be described as 'fleeing', even as you drag it along on the leash because it's too wounded to walk. It will be described as 'hungry' and even 'starving' even as it refuses to eat the food it's offered. When it's so badly injured, you can just tie its leash to a tree and forget about it until it 'barks in hunger' to tell you it's back among the living. It won't be a bother until then!

Gameplay questions / Peeling bark
« on: February 12, 2021, 07:25:59 PM »
Has anyone else noticed that, as the season advances from early summer, the bark peeled from trees comes off in smaller sections? I was getting 100's and larger regularly. Now I'm taking down 50's or smaller. I'm using the same small knife. I'm wondering if the result is conditional.

Dogs don't eat rotten fish. They roll around in it!

Have not hit any limit warnings or problems yet. Anticipating the problem, though, I dug a cellar on a one-square island in some rapids and moved a great deal of my most valuable tools, weapons, and furs there.

Likewise, At a day's distance is my first settlement with a split of my possessions, the rest being at a large, fenced-in fishing camp on an island that is approachable through rapids at 5 different points when winter freezes over.

Bug reports / Trade bug
« on: January 31, 2021, 12:17:19 PM »
A former Companion has been hanging around my settlement for weeks, felling trees. I recently found him outside my fence again and I offered to trade him 150 raw elk cuts for his broad knife, which he accepted. He dropped the meat on the ground. When I picked it up, it did not get the notation 'Taken'. He should not trade for something he cannot carry, just as the foreign traders won't.

General Discussion / Re: What region does Unreal World take place in?

Is the map supposed to be an accurate depiction of an area? Or, is it a depiction of what Iron Agers thought the world looked like?
