Bug reports / Re: [3.60 stable linux] path-finding
« on: November 16, 2019, 09:46:11 PM »
Aye, I've seen this on multiple occasions. Having hired a Companion while far from home, the spring thaw came and when the Companion left my service he was unable to detect a passable route to return home.

I've had a Companion follow me halfway through a ford, stop on a rock in the middle of the ford (the ice was too thin to hold us, so, we got wet), and dither for a long period before I finally got him to finish the crossing.

I've had a Companion leave to return home and get stuck for weeks standing next to a road. He was very close to his village yet got stuck.

This mostly seems to be a problem when negotiating water.

Didn't there used to be an option available? Something about Fine Winter squirrel furs?

Wow! Now they're telling me they hoped they'd never have to see me again! Wish there was a way to lead bears and Njerps to that village. They're really pissing me off...

9x3. I just plant a few turnips, for baiting traps.

I don't consider it abuse. I think of it as sorting out the bad seeds, which one would do when planting by hand.

Gameplay questions / Bear Hibernation starts when?
« on: October 22, 2019, 11:02:54 AM »
I'm in Sartola lands, there's light snow on the ground and it's day 4 of the 8th week before midwinter. I'm seeing bears wandering and am wondering if they should not already be in hibernation? I've trapped one and his fur is rated as a winter coat.

(It's now 6 weeks before midwinter and still seeing/trapping bears)

(Perhaps this post is not relevant. Research reveals "However, far from being a long, uninterrupted sleep, hibernation consists of periods of sleep punctuated by periods of arousal. Sleep time is long during the dead of winter but is shorter at the beginning and end of the season.")

Aye. This topic got me looking online for info on root cellars. Many descriptions were exactly what Sami has shown. I'm going to start moving mine outdoors, just to get it right!

I guess I'm equating them with 'root cellars' which, as far as I remember, were often dug under/inside dwellings. I wonder why it would be different in Finland?

I've made a first attempt at gifting various villagers with small amounts of smoked meat.

There is one anomaly. There's a single villager, an adventurer, who does NOT have any animosity towards me. It's as though he doesn't really belong there. Do villages get visits from wanderers? Do adventurers count as villagers?

There's a village that's a quick walk away from the little lake where I built my cabin. I always keep good relations with villages, never murder Companions, rob their fields. Yet, for some reason, this village considers me a 'nuisance'. The only thing I can think of that might have affected their opinion is the time I entered the village and shortly thereafter a Njerp and his dog attacked the villagers. (He's the reason I went in- to see if he'd attack there)

So, I looted the Njerp, against whom I did nothing in the fighting, and I skinned/butchered his dog. (I'm assuming it was the Njerp's dog because the villagers were fighting it, not one of their own that got hit by them and turned on them) All the fighting and my looting were actually outside the village commons, a few steps into the surrounding woods.

So, I guess my question is, is there some taboo I might have committed that I don't know about? And, Will I be able to change their nasty attitudes with gifts?

Aye. There are folks here, experienced players, who have completed that quest and the lost cow/sheep quest. I've tried both several times and gave up. I may have been looking for the wrong things with the latter for both times I've found wolf tracks, but it's supposed to be the tracks of the lost animal I'm seeking. The bird quest, I never got close on. I don't have a suggestion. Just saying I've given up trying those.

Otoh, I usually find the wounded adventurer's site quickly, not taking more than a 2nd day of searching.

A lot of things are abstracted in the game, like the fires needed for smoking. We start a fire once and that's all that is needed for the entire process. The actual area of the cellar is abstracted. And, imagine bunking down in the atmosphere of a smokehouse! Yet we can.

I'm not a purist nor am I looking for an exploit. I just noted the change and wondered if the change is intentional. And, it's a small matter in the end...

I build cellars inside my cabin. Since the latest update, when I try to dry or smoke meat while standing ON/IN the cellar, I get the message that says I don't have the required conditions to do this. However, if I move off the cellar I can successfully smoke/dry the meat. It's a minor thing, yes, but it's something that has changed. Not sure if it was intended.

Gameplay questions / Re: Traps and hostile forest
« on: October 10, 2019, 11:38:18 AM »
I just had an event in which my trap/fence resulted in 3 reindeer and a wolf all at the same time. One deer had been killed by the wolf. When I killed the 2nd trapped deer I got one of those 'scary' forest messages.

I had not been setting anything new (like traps) nor cutting trees previously.
