Gameplay questions / Cant find stonecrop
« on: September 10, 2019, 11:13:20 PM »
Are there some specific region or culture territory where stonecrop grows?
Need to find 60 stonecrop leaves. But for 5 days I didn`t find any. I search on mountains in Driik and Islander regions.  ???

Yes contrattack is a right name for what I meant by parrying.

What are advantages of blocking if you have contrattack? To axhaust an opponent?

I like Njerp camps as they give reason to play. Because since you build a house and set a traps you are safe and game can become boring.

Gameplay questions / Defence bonus, disarming and blocking tactics
« on: October 13, 2018, 04:57:13 AM »
With planned approach you can lure Njerp in woods cripple his leg and kill far away from camp. So you can win battle with crude staff.
But even best sword cant help you if you run strait to enemies.

I like how combat mechanics is made.
And want to understand more.

When defense bonus is used, with blocking or with parrying?

How to effectively disarm opponent? With blocking, parrying, or just hitting arms? Does the defense bonus plays role on successful disarm?
Does the type of damage (blunt), or some weapons are better for disarming or hitting some body parts?

I read some topics but still there is no complete information.

Seems club is the best weapon for killing animal and not damaging the skin.
But clubs are bad at fighting and investing in clubs seems has no other purpose.
Are there other methods?

Staff is another light and wooden weapon. Can you use it instead of a club with equal result?

Some player mentioned shooting with broad head arrow and waiting to bleed.
Leaving animal until night and finishing in the sleep.
Waiting until it dies in a trap.

There is also hunting knife. It suppose to help kill an animal with minimal damage to the skin, but I couldn`t find information on how good it works.

Which methods have you try and which you prefer?

Gameplay questions / Re: Javeline and eyesight

I see. :)

So I need to rise somehow stealth.

Are there some tactics to move stealthy? Hide behind trees, stay and wait?
Usually I can't come closer to animal than 12 squares but I have 69 in stealth.

Also you are tired almost all year due to snow.

Since I switch to Linux game options become limited. I searched for something like Angband or Nethack but with graphic.

I always prefer gameplay to graphics.
Low graphics actually can be predictor of good game. Like board games and chess there are no graphic at all.
If people play game without visual effects there must be a reason.
When I saw unedited photos with pixel graphics I realize this must be something interesting.

Gameplay questions / Javeline and eyesight
« on: September 28, 2018, 03:09:20 PM »
My character has 96 in spear skills.
But he has medium eyesight.
He cant hit any target with javelin from distance 8-14 tiles.

Is this because of medium eyesight. Or javelins are suppose to hit from closer range?

Also if I have a spear in secondary hand does ti affect accuracy with javelin?

Gameplay questions / Re: Where the heck are the axes?
« on: September 27, 2018, 07:18:29 PM »
A bit annoying though that every game you have to move to Driik region, then it doesn't make sense to choose to start as another tribe.

This was my first self made quest. :) I choose to start with native tribe and then move to Driik. :)

I start as lonely settler with 3 axes. It would be too easy to start in Driik region.

A rare coincidence of the good kind happened to me yesterday!  ;D I was walking along the overhead map and suddenly was brought down into the detailed map because a Njerp was spotted! I looked at him and saw he has an axe! I was desperate for it. I'm pretty good with the bow so after 3 shots the fiend was dead, and I inheritted all his treasure, including a.... woodsman's axe! Now to find the other axe types so I can build a permanent home and start preparing for winter.

Preserving grass for cows can give new game strategies.
Now the only reasonable place for a settlement is near the rapid.

With cow you can satisfy thirst and build home on the top of the hill or deep in the forest and other locations.

Suggestions / Re: New look of rain a bit hard on the eyes
« on: September 27, 2018, 01:42:40 PM »
I think the right way to implement effect of the rain is to make it affect character, not irritate player. :)
But must admit current rain effect is very realistic. :)

Suggestions / Re: How about Scurvy?

This Idea is realistic but doesn't add anything to gameplay, like it would do new rituals enemies or their behavior . Just additional micromanagement with food.

If this is completely normal have you spent every game you started walking for hours through 20 villages across 2 regions to find an axe?

I don't want to murder innocent villagers for their axes, that's just despicable.

This is rare coincidence. Normal or not depends on point of view.

In my current game I discovered 30 villages before build settlement.
This is because I was very picky and want shore, hill with good view, and Driik village and wood supply near my settlement. I also collected tools seeds and animals during travel.

I understand this is not your choice how to start game. But there different options.

You can view typical map of regions before character creation to suggest direction to Driik willage or other culture.
It is also good to print screen world map before entering the world.

General Discussion / Re: What's Going On In Your Unreal World?
« on: September 26, 2018, 10:00:16 PM »
I was checking trap fence with two of my dogs near the ford. I found fresh elk tracks leading to frozen lake.
I followed the tracks there were holes in the ice. Finally I found dead bull elk lying drown in the water.

This was very realistic!

Gameplay questions / Re: Dont understand how trapping fence works

I think pits are not much harder to build than fence. So it will be easy to make few traps pits in fence line. Not necessarily long fence line.
