Gameplay questions / Best Ways to Acquire Masterwork Fur Armor?
« on: October 21, 2023, 03:02:03 PM »
I'm curious if anyone has any observations regarding good ways to get masterwork fur armor.  I see it on foreign traders quite often, but they are unwilling to part with it in trade almost all of the time.  I've found some pieces for sale in Driik, even fewer for sale in Reemi.  Kaumo is almost always rough quality and the few places I've stopped in Koivula, Sarto, and Kiesse seemed to not really be worth my time to look there.  Maybe I should be looking to do more quests to get the lost treasure reward?

General Discussion / Re: Battleaxe vs Battlesword

If you have the skill for battlesword I'd say it's almost always better, but that can be a big if.  Even though edge isn't effective against metal armor, it's pretty uncommon for opponents not to have weak spots where a sword landing is just immense damage.  Eyes are always a possibility, neck is usually one too, and often they have lightly armored spots elsewhere like knees, elbows, hands, arms.

Back to the previous big if though, you have to either roll a specialized character (or easy mode) to be advanced in swords or spend a lot of time training the skill throwing swords around.

There's a dexterity check for when using weapons in combat too, if your dexterity is low you'll fumble more often.  Not sure if there's ever a dexterity check for performing other tasks.  Same with agility, you'll fall over in combat if your agility is bad, and  more likely to fall from a blow as well I think.

Check your ancestors; it should show if you died while unconscious or otherwise.

I will have to cross reference once I think I die from one shot. I don't think any of my characters have died that way... But through all the versions I've had a lot of deaths

Gameplay questions / Can the player character be killed in one shot?
« on: April 13, 2021, 06:10:03 PM »
Sorry if this is obvious, but I'm wondering in the player character can actually die in one shot? When the pc goes unconscious we don't really see what happens exactly to our bodies before death, so maybe what really happens is something like eye shot, then kill shot to neck while unconscious?

Gameplay questions / Re: Njerpez Encounters in 3.63

So it's been about 8 or 9 months in game since I adopted the strategy of burning down the wooden buildings in cleared njerpez camps.  In total I've cleared either 41 or 42 camps total (including 1 from initial scenario and two east of southern reemi not included in this screenshot,) and I think that number was 6 or 7 before I started.  So in ~9 months I got ~35 njerpez camps to spawn.

So, if you're not getting enough Njerpez action where you are, move to no mans land between Reemi and Kaumo, roam around until you see those purple spots, then clear it and burn down the wooden buildings (you can leave the kotas.)

Side note but clearing all these camps led to the first time I ever saw an ango in game, and also a throwing axe.

Update here: After not getting any new camps spawn I acted on a hunch. I burned down the existing camps so that it showed up as "ground" on the wilderness map. Immediately new camps started spawning and I'd clear and burn them. I've cleared probably 6-10 more in a couple months (in no man's land thit spots,) I'll post a screen shot when I get home.

Edit: Attached a screenshot.  All the red X's are cleared and burned camps (21 I think.)  I think anytime you move in no mans land in the east theres a chance for a camp to spawn, but the game does a check if theres a camp nearby.  If there is it won't spawn, so clearing it gives the chance for more to spawn...I think.  Although now it seems to have stopped, harvest month currently so I wonder if that's the reason...if maybe spring and summer is the time for them to spawn.

Suggestions / Add something cool to the NE part of the map
« on: April 02, 2021, 11:39:59 PM »
I feel like the NE part of the map needs some love (north of njerpez.) Maybe this area could be harsher in terms of more wolves, colder winters, more njerpez or robbers? Or maybe more mystical? Or another faction... maybe aggressive or maybe temperamental?

I don't know if it's superstition or not but I think warcamps spawn when you sleep in the no man's land between the territories. I've only seen one in the recent versions though. You'll know when one has spawned because on the F6 map there will be a new purple square region of Njerpez territory

To add on this further, I'm about a year into a new game. Think I've seen ~5 camps so far. But they stopped spawning maybe 4 months into the game... I wonder if something changed. The only thing I can think of is I don't often sleep on the wilderness map anymore, so I'm wondering if you might be on to something... I also encountered my first wandering njerpez in this playthrough...1 year into the game!

To echo what Palu said, any time you choose to fight in this game you might die. Njerpez are very random in their equipment allotment, physical attributes, and I'm assuming in skills too. So you might get a bunch in a row that have poor speed, endurance, dexterity, etc, only the next time to be met with one with a bastard sword that is a beast!

For the most part 1v1 human encounters can be heavily in your favor if you know how to reverse endurance hunt them. Dogs though are much faster and often run away so you have to stay vigilant. They're not strong fighters for the most part but if they blind side you they can land a lucky hit and cripple you. Beware in the latest version though as njerpez often come with other njerpez now.

After my journey by boat from drik to no man's land between kaumo/reemi two camps spawned near my route. Had I think 6 camps spawn my last game... In one year!

Gameplay questions / Njerpez Encounters in 3.63

On some play throughs I like to hunt a lot of njerpez.  From reading the patch notes, it seemed like wandering njerpez would still be common in the Eastern part of the world, but I've encountered significantly fewer than previous versions. My last playthrough I had maybe 5 Encounters with wandering njerpez in about 1 year, almost all of that time in between kaumo and reemi.  I have been seeing quite a few war camps though which is pretty cool, and when I do meet wanderers they're usually 2-3 instead of 1.

Anyone have tips on finding more or getting war camps to spawn? War camps seem to have a chance at spawning randomly, maybe more often when you travel good distances in the Eastern world? Or maybe you just need to be within a certain distance to see them?  I think I cleared 6 in about 1 year in game in my last playthrough.

Suggestions / Re: Buff metal armor, nerf leather and furs
« on: March 22, 2021, 09:37:35 PM »
I hope I'm not hijacking this thread, but

"Armored like that I think my character shouldn't have been able to hurt the enemy."

I personally think that perfectly sums up the issues here. I think the main issue is a stacking issue; wearing 20 articles of clothing should hinder you regardless of how much they weigh. Maybe some % penalty for each article of clothing over x amount.

Also, due to the way item protection is calculated, degraded items are usually better than items in perfect condition(except metal.) Example, beaten up linen trousers at 0.1 weight still offer 1 edge and 1 point protection, versus 1 and 2 for full weight linen trousers (3.8?) For leathers and furs it's still better too, you can reduce some of the weight and still keep good edge/point protection. My previous 190 lb character with max endurance would have a total encumbrance of ~4-5% when fighting with maybe 25-35 articles of clothing and his weapon.

It's not exact but you can search the log file for "njerpez warrior dies" and "njerpez warrior sighs" and add those two together.

Curious if anyone has tried this with the new fire mechanics... Seems much harder
