Some impressive hours there ;D. Do you guys play for that actively or just have the game running on the background, I tend to do that quite often. The game is running, I play some turns alt-tab back to whatever else I'm doing, and repeat the cycle.

And even then I only have 300hrs :o

I run 5 characters and cycle through them to keep the play fresh. Every hour logged is from play. I have over 3 thousand hours on Skyrim...heh, my wife calls herself a "computer widow". lol

My wife has about the same time on Skyrim as you. :love:
Still, she hates when I play this "crappy-childish-looking game"... One day she'll understand... maybe...

@ Tom H. To clarify you've had elk eat a harvested bog bean root set as bait same with harvested lingon berries, and you feel that you have better luck with traps baited with rye and berries than those without even if the bait is not being eaten.

The Heather is good to know although I generally move to much to make use of unharvested plants.

That's correct, Ara. I learned about the bogbean root at a time when I had no turnips and there was a group of elk near my holding. I tried a group of unidentified roots in the same trap at the same time. Repeatedly, I trapped elk and found ONLY the bogbean root was eaten. Btw, it remained an unknown herb to me for two years before my character learned enough herb lore to identify it...lol.

Re: the berries/seeds, yes, the rate of success WITH those baits is significantly greater than I've had with unbaited traps. I often use unbaited traps to mark locations, like ant hills or edible mushrooms, so, I feel I've acquired enough data for that determination.

One thing I do is experiment with herbs and seeds to see if there are any usable as bait in traps. I assume that a basket of 16 pounds of seeds/flowers, for instance, would not properly be considered to be bait?

 Also, there are quests to supply village sages with the various herbs and, if I've already stored them in containers, it forces me to hunt them down again in the wild. I'm not even sure if the sage would accept herbs measured in pounds.

Turnips are good for hares, definitely. I've had badgers destroy my turnip patches, so, add them to the list.

Bogbean ROOTS are great for deer and elk. There may be other such roots that work but, so far, those are the only ones I've found. I suppose the reason for that is that, by the time I've researched an herb, I've usually bought or grown my own turnips, which I know works.

Lingonberries are bonafide as bait for birds, even if spoiled. Caught birds always eat the fresh berries in the trap. They never eat the spoiled, even though that is the bait that lured them into the trap. So I just reset the trap with the same spoiled berries.

I regularly catch birds using just a 'handful of rye seeds'. These they don't eat, either. I've tried some other seeds but I would not swear by them.

Here's the thing about loop snares and birds. One can't say that baits that are not eaten are good or not. I catch more birds WITH baited traps than with unbaited traps, but, I do catch them, sometimes, even without bait. Did they simply stumble into the traps? Can't say.

I'd like to see rain gear to cover a traveler, boots that get soaked in the rain, wide-brimmed hats for the rain. Perhaps skins that have been rubbed with animal fat for water-proofing.

I hope I don't sound pedantic for saying that, in English, the plural for trout, salmon, and perch are spelled exactly the same. Thus, there are no 'perches', 'trouts', or 'salmons'.

Lastly, is there any chance I could teach a dog to fetch a stick. I think I'd like to play with them, now and then...heh.

The Njerp's dog is a real pain IF you don't have a dog or Companion fighting with you. It will attempt to get behind you. However, if you hit the dog for enough damage, it will flee the battle. I've had several battles in which the enemy's dog was wounded and totally fled the area, never to be seen again.

I usually have 3 or more dogs with me and they try to intercept the Njerp's dog, first. However, the Njerp turns his immediate attention to your dogs, thus you can expect injuries to them if the fight drags on. It can get very confusing as you try to aim at ONLY the Njerp's dog while avoiding hitting your own. Fortunately, the latest updates made it significantly easier to parse between contestants in a crowded battle area.

Keep in mind that the last update makes it much more dangerous to fight because Njerp often travel in groups. I've fought one Njerp and his dog only to have another Njerp and his dog join the fight from a distance.

It's not much but if you're skiing you can use the letter 'A' to remove your ski stick and it doesn't seem to cost any time to do, so, a spear would be ready to go with both hands. Also, if you're carrying a bow/spear in position #1 and a ski stick in position #2, you can 'Wield' a javelin or an arrow, etc, in position #2 without having to give an order to drop the ski stick. It will just replace it in position #2.

In reference to Palu's point about arrows, IF you select an arrow without equipping and then choose not to fire, it will still use that time segment but the arrow will NOT be equipped.

I'm from Louisiana, the 'Sportsman's Paradise'. Fishing doesn't work that way in slow-moving waters, nor in open sea. It certainly would not work that way for ice fishing. People have favorite fishing spots because they've caught fish there, not because their senses tell them it's a good place.

Aye. I've had guys who were armored up, head to toe, who were one-shotted with an arrow through their eye. Another was diced by a Njerp using nothing but his knife. That's not counting the ones who were just battered down by well-prepared Njerps.

So, Hire Companions, buy dogs. Don't treat the game like it is the World ofWarcraft.

One of my characters is nearly 19 and just found his first Masterwork Broadknife- in fact, he found TWO of them. Traveling from Kuikka lands down to Reemi lands, the only area he'd never been to, was very rewarding. His previous excursions were so exhausting that he'd just never gotten so far to the southeast.

Carrying a dozen furs, a handful of weapons, and 50 arrows for barter (and as it turned out, his Fine Northern knife and a linen shirt), he managed to trade for, at Masterwork quality, a broadaxe, a carving ax, the two broad knives, a small knife, and a shield. He also traded for a big boar (it just seemed like a must-buy!), a big dog, and a BIG BULL! In addition to the foot wrappings, for the coming cold, he bartered for enough dried and smoked fish and meat along the way to complete his trek. He'd found 37 Reemi villages and there was still a bit of their lands left to explore!

In the end, he returned home a week before winter with only 3 furs and none of the trade weapons left. His barn is looking pretty crowded with 5 dogs, 2 cattle, a deer, and a boar. All in all, the most successful trade trek I can recall.

"I've been trading my excess meat at villages. My usual routine is to load 300 cuts on my small cow. Many times now I've carried 300 over to the cow, dropped it and pushed the 300 cuts onto the cow. Once done, it has divided the 300 into two stacks on the cow, roughly 245 and 55. No problem, so far.

However, I've found, several times, that when the cow is holding almost her max number of different items my cow receives the larger stack but not the smaller stack, and that the original stack of 300 is still whole."

Sami did not respond to it then, so, I guess that exploit is still around.

To stop bears from opening your door: set traps outside, on the 3 tiles accessible from the door. And you can leave the diagonals set, then kick&reset to cardinal one before going to sleep. Light levers are simpler to reset than loop snares or paw boards.

Lot of hassle, somewhat immersion breaking. Not a fan of the style. But it works.

I understand what you mean about abusing the game mechanics. I don't feel that putting a loop snare on a cellar does so. It might be considered that the man-smell of the snare deters predators while birds and hares just don't share that instinct. I agree with you on the 3-trap being a bit of an abuse.
