Birch bark rope has been available since version 3.60 and also withes from saplings.
Though, withes are only applicable on some "crude" tasks like making fences.

I also don't think birch bark rope can be used as a replacement of cord in all cases.
Haven't played for a while, so can't remember for sure.

Death. That's what 

A njerpez appeared out of nowhere just behind my back while hunting and killed my char,
which I was hunting with and was ill prepared for a fight. This happened just one day after
I had bought myself a bunch of master grade fighting and building equipment AND dropped
them at my residence. The njerpez only had a knife and such, but my bow, mastergrade
handaxe and low quality clothes were no match for him.

I guess I have to start a new character. I was just fond of that one and been building him
for some time. And this time I wasn't even rushing into dangerous wild animals or robbers
or njerpez out of boredom and/or curiosity... *sigh*

Mostly coffee... Wait, I don't think you asked that.

I use Gimp.
I mean I use real images, downscale them and then do some editing pixel by pixel
as needed. Some need more some need less. The leaf trees I'm not very happy with,
might return to them another day. However, I'm very happy how the pines and spruces
turned out. Just the way I wanted them. As well as the logs and cabin.

I wanted to do the terrain too, but realised it's not that easy with the time I can use on
them. Maybe some day.

Cellar I'm definitely gonna make with a gray door in the future.

[ UPDATE 2021 : My image server is no longer, so I put images into two different replies (max files per post is 4) under this topic. ]

Not really a mod, but a graphic pack.

I wanted more realistic looking trees, so I decided to try make them.
I also wanted in my mind more authentic looking trunks, logs and blocks
as well as gray log house and gray fence.

To install:
- download a .zip file of your preference
- go to your game directory
- make a backup of your current "truetile" -directory (just in case you want
to revert back to the originals)
- extract the downloaded .zip file contents into the "truetile" -directory inside
your game directory (overwriting existing ones)
- start game
