Modding / Re: Modding Tutorial and Help
« on: February 22, 2023, 10:34:27 PM »
I was trying to add seed tags to the herbs and newherbs file, as to make a herbal mod.

Through the flora_newherbs:clayweed it looks like you can just add:

[SEED_VOLUME:fistful]
[SEED_QUANTITY:1]
[SEED_SIZE:M]

But mother pipe or bear pipe doesnt want to give me seeds, haven't tried with other herbs, in the flora_herbs file. I've tried to close the game, make new char and remove the root tag, adding the noseed_nutrition tag. I can't for the life of me figure out how to make those herbs give seeds, after threshing the plant.

Suggestions / Re: The UrW Anti-RSI Campaign group. ARSI, for short.

Doesnt really seem like a problem for the dev or a thing to worry about.

This keyboard fight and flight problem isnt new. It's not 2 years old or 10, it's almost 30 years old.

Maybe if you made a hefty donation...

Development News / Re: Lots of angling improvements on their way

Disappointed.

Fishing is OP, and you didn't mention making it harder to survive on it.

Not to wh... I mean worry all that much. Rod fishing becomes more challenging as the type of fish caught becomes more dependant on the bait used. For example catching big predatory fish with empty hooks will be practically impossible. Aaand for more elaborate fishing worries the suggestions section is open.

I'm not even sure what word you tried to use. Anyway, you have a roadmap, don't you? Can't one be diappointed in reworking a mechanic when the roadmap isn't finished?

Yes, we've got the list of dev.plans, although it's constantly under construction and barely suits as a roadmap that leads to a finished game as this is more of a constantly evolving sort of a project. And there's not much about fishing related stuff on that dev.plans list anyway.
One can be naturally disappointed for ever so many reasons. Just wanted give you hope that fishing actually becomes a little harder with these additions.

And that's what I'm talking about. These new changes/features aren't on the roadmap or dev.plans, but you choose this. That's the disappointment, in consideration that the roadmap/dev.plans list is not even half done.

Again, I'm pretty sure you can delete .vil and his name is forgotten and will be granted a new one and maybe even new items.
Only disclaimer is I'm not the dev and maybe not with active quests.

Those files like eastm.dat is a text file that just contains a list of male names for the eastern cultures.
Are you sure the file was present? (eastm.dat notfouD=not found?)
Because if it wasn't, it looks like a normal error message (from a programming point of view), and the reason his name is that forever is that it is saved to the characters save folder. name.VIL if I'm not mistaken, thus even if the file was redownloaded, it wont fix the save files for your char.

Perhaps others can correct my limit info or give more insights.

Seen this in 3.52, actually having backup'ed the exe I just tried holding down NUMPAD 3 and the game asked me to select a target as if I hit NUMPAD 1.

General Discussion / Re: Crowdfunding : your thoughts?

This will surely slow down the development of the "flagship", no?

We aim to have it the other way around. Personally, I'd love to quit my main work to be a full-time indie game developer, so that in the future I would have more coding time to help Sami with UnReal World development. After considering various different ways of taking this leap the chosen tactics is a crowdfunding campaign for a small side-game project.

For so many years I have had trouble with finding proper coding time next to my main work. The time has come to ditch my other odd jobs. I do believe that taking this leap will eventually lead to boostin UnReal World development, instead of slowing it down.

EDIT: to clarify; the mentioned side-project is not intended to be a long-term development like UnReal World is. The plan is to spend a few months coding a release version (1.0), then slow down for a few more additional versions (like 1.1 or 1.2), eventually leaving the side-project as it is, so that there will be more time to concentrate on UnReal World development. So, this another game is just a temporary transition phase.

And, as mentioned: an another game could also double as a test environment to develop and to polish algorithms before implementing them in UnReal World. For example, back in the time when I was coding the weather simulation for UrW, I first coded a tiny text-based test environment. I ran hundreds of tests in the sandbox environment so that I got the details of the simulation polished, before the whole thing was implemented in the main game. Now I'm planning a full stand-alone small game, partially for the same reason - to have a sandbox where I can experiment with various algorithms. But this is purely to coder point of view - for the player that mentioned small game would naturally be a fully playable and fully enjoyable game in itself.

Only you, knows what's best for you. And whatever you decide we can do nothing, best of luck with it.

As a customer of UnReal World, I'd much much rather have more updates on that and/or even crowdfound specific features. I don't wanna grap another game to fullfill my UnReal World "needs" and is a little concerned about the state that game could/will be left in (I haven't been here for 28 years, just 2). It does seems counter productive, from a customer's point of view. And I my opinion, there's lots of small stuff to work with in UnReal World already.

No thank you.

There's still a shit load of stuff to add in UnReal World - looking at the roadmap.

I've seen plenty of birdies fly/walk right into a loop snare.

There's alot of incomplete stuff related to Unreal World. Website is outdated, WIKI is outdated, old forums abandoned and not merged, so new players need to do "research" in order to find information. Modding ability not fully documented. Forum not telling unregistered users that there's files that can't be viewed. Community not really existing? (this is a I've been here for a month and don't know, but it's what I see atm). Most useful data was written or discussed around 2016/17.

Are these brought up as reasons of not supporting... or I just don't quite get the relation...

All in all, it's kinda hard for a new player to join, unless you got alot of free time to burn.

That's an unfortunate fact with the game itself, I have heard. ;)
But at least you don't have to burn the money first.

But you have done a few of the things I mentioned, or maybe your co-dev or maybe it was on your list anyway.
