Re: [3.63] Ghost-Spruces in the forest Then why is it that you can put a list of people being hostile to you and I can't? Somebody tries to find a reason to your bug and you write "I don't want half-assed assumptions tossed around.". You don't need to write this way.

I don't know if this is really your intention or just the way you type, but it comes up very rude and hostile. I think you are the only person who put up a list of people being "hostile" to you in the forum. If it stinks everywhere you go, maybe check under your shoes... Just a tip.

Never have I seen so much ? A wounded adventurer barely managed to crawl into town. I wandered into town shortly thereafter. One of the town shamans, Eidar, I think it was, said the adventurer needed help. Of course that was irresistable bait for my curiousity. The poor soul, was out gathering fire wood in the morning when he startled a bear, his limb looked like roughly ground meat. And all he wanted now was the northern spear handed down to him from father to son for generations. He said it was in a coniferous forest bordering a large body of water. And, he marked my map - over there somewhere. What could be easier? And, I could use bear meat to try smoking, now that I had built a fireplace in a cave and walled off the area with a door.

The whole north side of this large lake was "coniferous forest"! I looked but found no bear tracks. Then, I found bloodscape! At least I was in the right area. Hopefully. But, where was his camp? I found more bloodscape to the east. But, no camp. Then, finally, I found his camp... and his spear... and two roasted grouse breast and a wooden mug? That's all?! Well, I was not doing this for the other items left behind at his camp. Honestly, I wasn't! Who needs a masterwork longbow anyways?!! Certainly not this Owl tribe master archer.

So, I returned his heirloom northern spear to him. And he told me of a treasure buried in a cave in the far south-west Owl-tribe lands, even further away than his spear had been. Narutrally. I'd heard from others about tales of treasures like these: rarely something YOU would want, like a huge masterwork battleaxe and masterwork shield, only you are an archer. Yes, I'd heard about treasures like these before. But, I could go, look, take the items to someone / everyone, else and trade whatever I found for jewelry and arctic fox furs - portable wealth. OK, that would keep me busy, really busy, for a long time... I checked to see I still had a wooden shovel I made a while back: yes. So, off I went.

I looked for the cave in the area he marked on my map.. And practically fell in a cave while I was looking the other way! I went back out to get some branches to make a fire and make a torch. How would I find this "buried treaure" in a cave? Was this even the same cave that adventurer was reffering too? There was something over there, looked like an oddly colored ant nest, This treasure was not even buried! It was just a pile against the wall of the cave.

I need a travois! I need a sled.. pulled by solar=powered dogs!!

How far away are Driik and Reemi from here? Why oh why do the two biggest malls have to be at opposite ends of the earth?

Re: drying meat with a cord should degrade it If drying meat and fish would degrade the cordage, while hung on a wall, under a eave/overhang. Then I feel using cords on traps and left outdoors for more than couple seasons: should disintegrate the cord and deconstruct the trap. But there are lot of old (not centuries old, just decades) fence lines still standing.
Meat is cut into thin slices, fish is generally butterflied, in either case cord doesn't have huge contact area with the protein.

TL:DR; I don't feel cord degradation when drying is warranted.

The first snow and back from holidays Hey, it's been a good two months without a word here at dev. news section, so it's about time to break the silence,  although you may have spotted my slowly increasing presence at the forums bugs section already.
We had the first snow few days ago, so the summer season is evidently ceasing.
See, I went on summer holidays quite late this year, in august, and thought "it's likely autumn, or early winter, before I get back to development chambers again."
Looks like that the time is at hand now.
Hunting bugs has always been a good way to get oriented back into coding, and I guess focus on that will continue for a good while. But yeah, the endless to-do lists also awaiting for us. So let's continue from here, and see where we get by the end of the year.

Crowdfunding : your thoughts? Hello!

This is Erkka from the Enormous Elk development team. We are planning an another game as a small side-project. To make this happen we'd like to set up a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo platform. The plan is to use Discord as the main platform during the development phase, so that there would be weekly updates on development progress, and monthly Q&A sessions (hopefully with a video stream). I think the funding phase would run for three weeks, aiming to have the first playable alpha or beta version before the end of this year.

To maintain the suspense, we will announce the project details only a few days before the crowdfunding campaign starts (before mid-November, that is). But what I can say already now is that the game would run on Windows, Linux and Android, also aiming for Mac and iPhone release pretty soon after the non-apple release. And also, in case you wonder - from the development point of view a side-project is beneficial also for the actual UnReal World development; a smaller sibling game would double as an experimental laboratory, where different kinds of algorithms and ideas can be tested.

So, at this point - before I start to set up an IndieGoGo campaign - I'd like to ask for your thoughts, ideas or personal preferences. What kind of perks would you like to see, for what sum of money? If you have ideas, please post replies suggesting things like "can we have a €25 perk for an access to the monthly live video streams?". Also, it would be cool if someone provides their views on perk range, like "Because of these reasons [....] I think that the minimum perk should be X euros for perk Z1, ranging up to Y euros for perk Zn" Or, what kinds of perks would you love? Digital content like music or concept art? A physical item like copies of game graphics design drawings, or a  hand-written thank you card?

Ps. More news in the weekend. I'm planning a blog post about my personal thoughts and the process of preparing for the project. In the blog post there will also be a bit more details about the project plans.

Seasonal sales and Kekri customs Harvest festival sales are on at Steam and Itch.io -- and in the Far North we do celbrate Kekri.
So let the new adventurers be respected with the discount, and the ancestral spirits with our special Kekri costumes and customs...

During this festivity period you can grab the game for decent discount on Steam, or from Itch.io.

It's Kekri, not halloween, in the Far North.

Kekri is an ancient Finnish harvest festival celebrated in the fall when the annual agricultural activities were all accomplished and the harvest collected. Kekri meant the end of the crop year, which was a big turning point. It was the time when the souls and spirits of the dead wandered around and visited the living. The ancestors were respected and welcomed. Sauna was heated up for them, and meal prepared too. The living celebrated accordingly, and so do we.

Kekri Goat

Kekri time included tradition of Kekripukki (Kekri goat) figure. People would dress up as horned creatures, wearing furs or coats upside down, and went around in their disguises and were offered food and drink.
So, what does a decent developer of tradition rich game do to follow the tradition?
Yes. He dresses up as Kekripukki.

We wish you happy and haunting Kekri time, or Halloween - if that suits you better.
Celebrate and participate!

Re: Crowdfunding : your thoughts? Hear ye, hear ye all of you naysaying nonbelievers and the rest of the fair unreal world wanderers. When a man who steadily delivered rock solid content for good 20 years tells you he'll do good on his promises and will deliver again - you listen. The right thing to do would be to say "Great stuff, more content from one of the most reliable devs in the gaming world, how can we help?" Anything else is blaspheming nonsense. And what do we do with blasphemers in the iron age? Anyone?

Come on guys, its Erkka we are talking about. Not just some kid who learned to code "hello world" and thinks himself a game developer who can start a crowdfunding campaign to make animated kittens. Its in our best interest to not only support this endeavor personally, but to spread the word. I mean did anyone hear of someone even remotely as dedicated as Erkka or Sami? In the whole bloody gaming world I can think of only two names - Tarn and Zach Adams. Thats it. So spread the word and give them your money. Or give them your money and then spread the word. That part is up you  ;)

P.S. I am sure we'll hear no more of this naysaying, but I'll go prepare a few stakes and gather some firewood. You know, just in case :P
