No, it won't. I forgot to mention that, and it's good that you asked since it's crucial information. The same old imperial units will remain in use within the crafts and recipes and all that, and the conversion is made only on the interface level.

tweaks to the flora modding (trees) So I finally ventured in to the flora of things. Made some slanted pine trees and straight deciduous ones.

Currently having 0 value in the tags below makes the flora not work or load at all.

I suggest following actions with the assigned 0-values,

(Will be spawned only once - when zoomed-in map area is first generated)

[MATURE:0]
(Will be an obstacle like trees and will be spawned already mature)

[WITHER:0]
(Will be never wither or despawn - unless picked up in case of [mushroom]-tags)

These hopefully simple modifications would allow tree modding (among gazillion of other peculiar things) while we wait for a more complete tree overhaul with species recognition. I have a working tree modding demo in my today's release.

EDIT:Other welcome additions for flora identified as trees would be:

New tags like:
[tree] so that the birds won't eat the [berry]es
[TIMBER:slender trunk / trunk] and allowing tree felling with appropriate result.
[BARK_NAME: bark / birch-bark strip / bast] or even custom?
[BARK_LENGTH: ] ('0' for no bark; '<5' for max number of rowan/alder style pieces; other numbers max length of birch-bark style strip)
[TWIGS:yes] gives s% twigs instead of just branches
[TILEGFX_DRESSED: (summer tile) ]
[TILEGFX_NAKED: (winter tile)]
[MEMORIZED:yes] so that the tree appears on map even when not seen (like 'real' trees)

Edit: underlined what could be default if tag missing.

Existing tags/actions:
Harvesting wouldn't destroy the tree (they'd stay put like picked berry bushes), but give flowers (if flowering month)/berries/leaves/roots if according tags are mentioned on the item's code.

EDIT: It would be really good to have a way to 'flush' the loaded map of outdated flora and have up-to-date ones grow automatically.

Since several spesifications of flora with a same name can become an issue, so I actually suggest that loaded zoom-in map can
be purged of all modded flora upon key-command. Then the flora-files would be loaded again.

Every wild linden I've seen in Finland have been bush-like. But that is probably because I've only seen them in places where they grow partially shadowed by taller spruces. Apparently, on open terrain they grow to be properly tree-likes. With a quick search I didn't find any pictures of bush-like wild lindens in Finland. Maybe that is because people only post pictures of the special, the outstanding ones =)

Re: tweaks to the flora modding (trees) I tried to have @trowftd's new beautiful linden trees give both flowers and berries (berries so that the tree graphic remains after picking) and failed. Also flowering seems weird: the tree flowers the rest of the year after flowering month? Shouldn't it supposed to flower only during the flowering month?

In any case modded trees are already nicely enriching my game environment. I'll be working on upcoming linden release(ing pollen) on my spare time this week.  8)

Recipe [optional] with +/- % quality I would be nice if in recipes for making crafts that optional items could give a chance for different quality which in turn can lead to a higher value by the fine/perfect modifiers

For example a decoration of headress with  leather on branches in the baseline, adding optional bones a +10% quality and adding optional feathers a +10% quality so together if both added a +20% quality so likely to bump it up a category

Re: modding trees - tree painters needed I've been battling with flora modding and now I'm finishing up my next release: linden, elm, juniper and willow! Omg! But I'd still need some help / reassuring with the graphics. You see - I'm color blind and I'm struggling with colors especially.

I used MS paint - but didn't paint: most of my 'works' are frankensteins of copy pasteing bits of vanilla tiles. Well maybe some retouching on top. Anyway...

I'd be happy to get some feedback. And if someone wants to retouch / recolor / redo some of these before my final release, I'd be very grateful.

(First here's a flora template I made so I don't have to open the readme.txt so often.)


Elder linden (Tilia cordata)
Here's the excellent linden tree by @trowftd. I edited some missing bark: you should see a light-colored patch on the trunk. The winter version is recolored, modified alder if I remember right.

Revamping alder (Alnus incana)
The perfect roundness has been bothering me so I tried to edit it narrower at the top. Wasn't so simple: tree graphics in game are overlaid from both dressed and naked versions. So I had to edit the naked versions too.

The flat topped birch (Betula pubescens)
The flat topped vanilla birch had been sticking out. I copypasted bits of the other one on top. The new graphic is a bit tall and covers up stuff behind it. But I like it a lot more now - though its sister on the left is beautiful beyond compare. I wish... The winter version had to be darkened so as not to shine through too much.

There are things I'm still not quite satisfied:
- my new birch looks like a pear: maybe more foliage downwards? I like the style of vanilla on the left.
- winter willow is too dark (looks black against the snow)
