Re: Anachronistic swords
It seems that every so often, a topic appears about anachronistic elements in URW.  To my mind, the creators have already addressed this issue adequately.  They have stated that URW is a fantasy game, and takes place in a fantasy world which is close to 9th-11th century Finland, but not identical.  I think this makes sense.  After all, the game already has spells and mystical spirits.  Surely longer and heavier swords does not stretch the imagination any further?

For the record, I was also fine with the "anachronistic" armor choices, but I don't mind them being gone, either.

Sami has made efforts to remove all the anachronistic armors, like ring and plate armor. He made efforts to change the battleaxe from the double headed fantasy axe to something akin to the Dane Axe. It's clear that his design vision, on equipment at least, is meant to be grounded in reality. With mostly everything in place, the sword category stand out like a sore thumb and seems to be the inconsistency in the game. It just feels very out of place now that everything else has been corrected.

I wouldn't have made this suggestion if ring armor and plate armor and double headed axes still existed in this game. This suggestion was simply made to maintain that consistency.

Re: Segmentation fault Yes, you're right. I was afraid it would be one of the libraries urw is using, indeed.

Setting AUDIO to NO in urw_ini.txt does the trick for now.

Thanks a lot!

Returning already eaten food When you take food from a village and eat it before anyone asks you to pay for it, you get it for free. When someone finally comes up to you and asks for payment, you can "return" the food by choosing the chat option "I am not able to pay. Take what is yours." while maintaining the same hunger level (so your character doesn't just vomit the food out). Villagers shouldn't accept back items that you don't actually return.

Re: Poems of the Fallen Pardon the anachronistic Shakespearian format, and not exactly fallen, but unfortunate.

The Lay of the Sexy Fisherman

He came to the town
With perches to sell
(A big cod as well)
And threw his catch down.

The men-folk all stared
And women they squealed
At muscles revealed
And all the flesh bared.

As naked as born
His arse in the draft
His clothes had he torn
For making a raft.

Re: Wild Animals in Villages Wolf AI seems to be deliberately designed to be creepy.  I woke up one morning to find my shelter completely surrounded by wolf tracks.  It had explored the whole area while I slept, then quietly slunk away before morning, not having touched a thing.  Freaked out, I surrounded my shelter with fences and traps.

Do you like my wolf fur boots?  They're new.

Partially constructed trap fence eats spikes Passed out from lack of sleep while building a trap fence.  It removed the six spikes from inventory and produced a translucent place-holder the way partially-constructed built-menu things do, but trying to resume required six more spikes.

Re: Poems of the Fallen Just a quick note which hopefully doesn't get things sidetracked;
I absolutely love this thread.  It's so great this was started, and that people joined in.

Oh I would love to have some of these verses to be composed into proper songs. Any composers/musicians/singers around who'd need a new project... :)

Allow the selection of other containers when cooking with a pot Honestly, it's annoying how, if I'm cooking things like vegetable soup or boiling turnips, the resulting cooked item will end up all in the pot. I get that this is 'realistic' in a very vulgar sense of the word, but in practice, all this means is that I have to press an extra couple keys pouring the food over from the pot into a wooden bowl or other container if I wish to cook up boiled turnips en masse. Unnecessary user input, really, that makes these activities very annoying to do. I think it'd be much more convenient for the player, without losing anything, if the empty pot was just another 'tool' required for the cooking, and the game would ask separately for the target container (which could be a wooden bowl, a skin, a tub, or even the same pot the game has already selected, if that suits the player). I'd be quite happy if this was introduced.

Re: Poems of the Fallen "It wasn't fair"

There's sleeping Njerpez, it wasn't fair
I'll cut his throat, life won't be spare

I was slow, silent, it wasn't fair
deep snow made sound, was not aware

"Red shirt" jumped quick, it wasn't fair
Wielding his weapon, shouted some swear

My spear was wooden, it wasn't fair
He had scimitar, I couldn't compare

Surprise was gone, it wasn't fair
He was a warrior, I wet underwear

One slice through throat, it wasn't fair
I feel so lucky, it was just nightmare
