Re: Had a dream about Unreal World
Yesterday I had a dream were I was playing unreal world, whole dream was in the perspective of the game so no manually hitting keys in a dream.
In the game I was being constantly harrased by ever aggresive bears plus for some reason polar bear.
Even while I was visiting villages there were at least 5 on screen milling about until I was seen by them.
Character didnt die but constantly got damaged.
What the hell does this mean? Did any of you guys ever experience this?

Hey, I really liked  to hear this. Thanks for sharing.
In the early years of the game development, after really intense coding sessions, I've sometimes dreamed in programming language, in C to be precise.
I mean that all my thinking and communicating in the dreamworld happened with programming language. As an example, instead of thinking "Hmm. There's a boogie man over there, maybe I should run." I thought as
while (!boogieman)
run();
for (i=0;i<100;i++)
fatigue--;
etc.

Re: What's Going On In Your Unreal World? It's been a while, and now I'm thinking about my young virtual survivor, sunk in virtual snow, within his virtual forest.

Squatted by the side of a frozen lake, a white vastness that greets him every morning, while embers dance out of a dead bonfire, under lazy winds. The sweat upon his face struggles against a cold, jealous atmosphere, which drinks on the heat that escapes from his limbs - certainly against his will. Another tree down, another log, another piece of wood he will turn into a cup, a plate, a toy, perhaps, if imagination helps. And maybe later on he might walk north, towards the village, trading his trinkets for a loaf of bread and a piece of fish. Small talk, some laughter, a few moments within wooden walls, and he might even remember what it means to care and be cared for. Ultimately, however, he will go back to his lake and his figurines, to the silence of still waters, to meditate on the figments of his own existence and try to bring that cacophony of thoughts and memories to a reasonable conclusion.

And I'm under the impression he would be miserable without this sort of solitude to keep him company.

Re: Summarizing shingles, showcasing tree species based timber will the random tree trunks found in the wilderness be randomised to match the tile? mostly pine in pine mire, heathland, lichenous pine forest, mostly spruce in coniferous forest, spruce mire, mostly birch in groves?

Bigger settlements and warfare? Last time I checked each village had a few people, maybe like 20 in driik? And there wasn't really warfare. But come on, people fought each other and built cities thousands of years before the game's settings. I think it would be cool if there was a few bigger cities scattered over the world, and if there was an option of skirmishes happening without player's involvement, but allowing player to join as a mercenary, or perhaps as a hero?

War parties and hunting groups Following the suggestion here: Bigger settlements and warfare
Specific suggestion for Finn war and hunting parties. With already existing code base is to have Driik, Reemi war parties to counter attack Njerpez (code from Njerpez raiding parties)
Bonus for asking PC to join a war party, or quest to go get X more volunteers from other villages/cultures to join.

Add hunting groups (few cultural encyclopedia pages mention seasonal hunting and fishing groups) instead of just single hunters.
I feel this would add great level of realism and immersion.

Quote
Permanent settlements did not appear until the beginning of the 1st millennium AD, during the Iron Age, when the area was inhabited by the Tavastians. They used the area for fishing and hunting, but due to the lack of archaeological finds it is difficult to say how extensive their settlements were. Pollen analysis has shown that there were agricultural settlements in the area in the 10th century, and surviving historical records from the 14th century describe Tavastian settlements in the area.
It seems that in the time period in which our game takes place, even Helsinki was just some agricultural settlements.
Turku, the oldest founded city on Wikipedia's list was founded two centuries after our game takes place: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_and_towns_in_Finland
I am aware of that. I stand by what I said though. Think about all the things of which proof we found in the last decade. Earlier many people would say "there is no proof of that".
There is a site in western siberia, around the same latitude as southern finland, where we found a fortified settlement that was build 8000 years ago.
But not a single small city in finland in the early iron age? I think that's ridiculous.

Naturally, considering history a science it has to be open for new factual discoveries to replace the old theories, but the game world is based on the current knowledge of the history, and the settlements modelled in accordance with that. A village was/is most often just a few houses. Game encyclopedia "VILLAGES" entry explains this to some extent.
There are actually quite many things that were invented and established elsewhere in the world even thousands of years before the game era but didn't quite exist in this remote northern location.
But out of curiosity, what would you consider a historically relevant population for that "small city" that would fit in the era?

Season's Greetings with electric elks and northern fire works! Once again the year is nearing its end and with these season's greetings we wish you all the best with the festivities and holiday season you might have at hand, and happy new year!

As this years speciality I shall a share a fresh episode from my traditional archery YouTube channel which offers a different
view to devs life in and outside the development chambers.
Now we've just recently passed the winter solstice in the Northern hemisphere and the days are slowly but steadily getting
longer and longer. So why don't we celebrate it with this sort of a northern fire works - the birch-bark fire arrows!

And let's not forget the picture greetings, this time with Enormous Electric Elk!

Take care, all the best, see you in 2025!

Re: What's Going On In Your Unreal World? Woke up this morning to the sound of my dog barking, so I grabbed my spear and opened the door of my cabin to see what the fuss was about.  I came face to face with a bear.  With a girlish squeal I leapt back into the cabin but the bear was through the door before I could close it.  Trapped inside a 4m by 4m cabin with an enraged bear, and all before breakfast.

My first strike was a good one right to the skull, and I lunged and countered again and again as both me and the bear panicked big style.  I got him, though.  Bearburgers, anyone?  8)

What's impressive is that usually I play a combat orientated Finn, but this guy is a Reemi trapper.  His spear skill is 66% and dodge 50%, and as it's summer he was wearing almost nothing.  Thank God he grabbed his spear before going to investigate the noise - though I have now learned to wield it as well before opening the damn door!
