Recovering from a forum crash Hello!

We recently experienced a server-side crash at the forums. To fully recover from the crash I had to manually restore the latest database backup, which was less than 24 hours old. So, any posts made after that backup are probably lost forever, but the vast majority of forum content seems to be back again.

Re: Village items cannot be paid for without being yelled at. 3.63 (stable).
    1. I moved all the village items to a building.

It's likely the result of this. The game, and villagers, try to keep track of the items - what's carried and what released - but excessive transporting, especially if it includes villager requests to pay, can apparently break something in the debt data. What actually happens and where remains unknown since to find it out we would be able to reproduce the whole drill as exactly as possible.
It's quite impossible to track things backwards from the savegame. Some item ownership related data is surely messed up there, but at what point and why it happened is super tricky to find out.

The best advice is not to do this. Moreover, it can seriously lower yours characters trading reputation as hesitation and repetitive picking and dropping of unpaid goods doesn't please the villagers.

Re: How to get early game food supply since fishing nerf Fishing:

I've been keeping a spread sheet, and I've had luck using berries, leaves, roots, and mushrooms, in addition to the more obvious baits of meat and fish.

meat and fish make the best baits, then leaves and roots are about half as good as those, berries are a big worse than leaves and roots but still all right, and mushrooms are a lot better than nothing, but not as good as berries.

Even with nothing you will sometimes get a roach or a perch and then you should use that as a bait for another fishing round

Trapping: I like to put all kinds of traps in the same general area, with a fence, and bait them with berries, roots, and eventually meat too (spoiled raw meat works fine, cooked or dried or smoked meat doesnt work so well). Each day I reset the traps to train up my skill and eventually it pays off.

Active hunting: this gets less annoying once you have a dog to tire the prey out, before that you want to be good with a bow and arrows or very patient or stick to pine mires.

Raising Textilecraft Skill Has anybody managed to skill up in textilecraft yet?

I started with 14%, and a year and a hundred poor cloth cords later I am still at 14%  ;D

It's irritating because when I try to make clothing the poor cords always drag the quality down and the best I can get is "rough".  I thought textilecraft would concern making yarn, and why bother when I can buy yarn so cheaply in the villages?  But it turns out that all my yarns become poor cords, because my skill is rubbish.  This is a problem because finding actual cords is like looking for rocking-horse poo.

From my observations, making cords doesn't seem to gain textilecraft skill (I have 3 stars in the skill gain column), so does anyone know what does?  Should I carve a hundred spindles, or look to harvest the world's supply of nettles for retting and yarn?

EDIT - making cloth cords does raise textilecraft!  Just made another 4, all of the poor quality but got the skill up  8)

It worked thanks :) i got a worm but i can't use it as bait so i guess it half-works lol progress

Changed the raw fish for a [TYPE:] parameter. also added a touch of weight.
I think with the food type it should let you fish it.

Code: [Select]
.Dig worm. "Hunting Horn" [effort:4] [phys:arms, hands, stance] *COMMON* /1h/ [noquality] [patch]
{[TERRAIN:lake river]} 'Lake or river (not rapids)'
{[TILE:Hole in the ground]} 'Pit for digging worm'
{Shovel}<Shovel>
[NAME:worm]
[TYPE:food]
[WEIGHT:0.1]
[PRICE:0]
[TILEGFX:fd-worm]

Owe you thanks also had to change hole in the ground for pit and it works cheers :)

Version 3.71 released - a small bugfix patch A small bugfix patch, version 3.71, has been released to address the following issues:

 - fixed: some faulty animal snow penalty calculations

On few occasions the fatigue rate of animals moving in the deep snow wasn't calculated right. This could result either in animals tiring too easily, or too little.

- fixed: distributing offered traded items among foreign traders wasn't always working

You might still end up in "can't carry" trade situation, even though the trading party would have capacity to carry the offered goods. Hopefully this is fixed for good now.

- fixed: Crash/shutdown related character data loss on Windows systems

On Windows system crash or computer power loss might result in character corruption which at its worst erased character data to the extent of making them unrecoverable. This issue has been now addressed with extra safety measures and internal backups which hopefully prevent the worst case data losses for good. Should you experience Windows crash the game now tries to recover character data automatically from internal backup files upon loading the character again. You may still loose some moments or few map loads in the character's life but the game hopefully goes on more reliably.

- fixed: UrW mobile controller not working on some systems

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's all folks. Four fixes in total. You'll find the release on Steam, Itch and also available for Lifetimers.

Re: Capture dog in the wild? Just found a dog in one of my deadfall bear traps, with a fire and fox bones next to it. Seems like an NPC hunter found a fox in my fox trap that was in the same place; cooked it; while he was doing that his dog got entrapped; and then he took off, leaving his dog in the trap! Nice guy. (I set the dog loose).
