Great addition. I feel like the blacksmith will always want firewood delivered. Perhaps he could have work available or just a frequently offered version of the "Help with chores" quest to deliver firewood. I have succeeded in getting a superior fur. It's quite uncommon as you note, the quality usually degrades before the tanning process completes. In general I try to reduce my character's penalty as much as possible before each step of the process. This was taken back in September of 2020. Automatic fire tending
I really like how shingles are replaced automatically to maintain light as our characters work on tasks nearby. I'd like to see something similar implemented for fires. Wood could be added from a nearby pile of firewood or branches as the fire starts to burn low. Additionally many crafting processes reduce the weight of wood such as crafting a fox trap from a board. It would be nice if that wasted wood could be added to a burning fire nearby.

I think they follow you pretty much the same as a companion. It's probably possible to get them stuck in a mire or on an island but you should be OK if you just travel back to the quest village on the wilderness map.
