I did some data analysis based on this discussion... Spoiler for min/maxing:
Just want to give a warning to any people trying to use that: encumbrance will kill you, not even a kaumo character can wear that and fight well

The protection it provides is far from invincible, from some old test results you will need like 20+ to ignore all attacks, 16-18ish might also work, but you just don't usually get that number unless you literally wear every armor you can find AND coverage is not perfect

Best way to stay alive:
Avoid fight>meat shields>dodge>block with shield

not sure what boil and bake and do in cooking as I never use them

Edit: after checking current version it seems cooking bonus no longer exist, now all type of meat provide same level of nutrition (in past roasted meat have +1 protein and lipid)

If you for whatever reason unable to use msglog method (e.g. deleted msglog.txt), cannot find the items in the spruce maze or for whatever reason trying to dig out a specific item, you can use this complicated method (which require some knowledge of course) to get the exact location of a item in local map:
Spoiler: show

1. open xxx.OBJ
2. find the item
3. each slot is 172 bytes and count the number
4. add 50000 to that number
6. search for that number
7. the structure of this file is
first 8 bytes global location <<< the same thing in msglog
next 4096 for buildings
next 4096 discovered
next 4096 terrain
next 4096 steepness
next 72000 things <<< you are here somewhere
each thing(include items, npc, tracks, etc.) slot contain 36 bytes and the reference number should be the 12th
the exact position in the map are save in first 4 bytes

No. Generally Wolves won't attack well equipped unwounded character but the present of livestock = effective wolf magnets
d) Can dogs attack (or at least defend themselves) when they are on the leash? They didn't seem to do anything when I told them to attack without unleashing them.
Yes but the idea of letting them fight with the leash is bad. They cannot leave you and will get exhausted fast if you leave them in aggressive state.

Just don't mess with the wolves, smaller packs (~4) are as dangerous as robbers and traders and larger packs (~8) are more deadly than the equal amount of robbers. The strength of the wolves is not just in numbers but also the tactics. They are the master of hit-and-run combat and there are no other npc/predators using this tactics as well as the wolves can.

The best way to deal with the wolves is to zoomout asap.

Re: A few noob questions You need the fish to have same freshness(caught in same day) for them to stack so you can dry/smoke/salt at most 19 at once.

Fishing is the best way for newbie to get food, you should find a fishing rod and go fishing in rapids or the sea. Lakes and rivers are having less ideal yield.

Don't worry about preserving fishes for now, spend time to make traps to get a steady food source then think about preserve your food.

Re: Trade issue with quest payment and giving back unpaid items. I think I can just simplify it into:
1. trying to buy things worth more than the reward
2. returning items so the reward should fully cover the cost of items
3. the trade didn't end as the player didn't make any offer to the items
