Re: Various questions from a new player There's only one kind of slender trunk. It can also be noted that both the kinds or regular trunks->logs are of Decent quality. They differ only for the purpose of a particular quest.

Re: Various questions from a new player
There Is is a village request that specifies a trunk cut down while it's raining.
Snowing works as well. As far as I've been able to tell, the criterion is that there's precipitation when you finish the job. If it stops while you're working the log's no good for that particular purpose.

Re: Winter time: where to get rope for a stone axe? The way I do it is to trap lots of birds and tan their leather (it also has the positive side effect of training Hide Working up to reasonable levels, although I tend to have to go light on the tanning early on to actually get enough to eat, as bird skin tanning takes a lot of time, and the meat you get from them is often not enough food for that period).

Obviously, killing a tormentor or two can provide you with a real axe or leather equipment (or a really short career...).

And congratulations on your slave escape: they're brutally hard to pull off.

Re: Alternative quest reward. I agree that they ought to be able to tell you where to look for the plants.

It can be noted that you can collect various unidentified plants and offer them to the sage and he'll accept the correct one. Thus, if you keep track of the description for what you offer, you can get the unidentified description for the plant, and then go back out to collect more.

Re: Head gear, bird leather Another point: If you feel like some game mechanic is an exploit or doesn't match realities (or your Role Playing ideas), simply don't use them.

Re: Various questions from a new player It's up to you to decide what you think is an exploit, but I use that tactic when I can. I also try to get my opponent (whether human or animal) to tire themselves into the Breathless state before engaging them. UrW is unforgiving, and once a creature is injured its ability to both defend and attack quickly decreases, which means getting injured can quickly result in getting killed.

Re: Various questions from a new player There's a fixed number of item stacks the PC can carry, and there are similar, but much lower, limits for craft, animals, and companions. There is not a limit for dropped item stacks on a time, as far as I know, although there is a limit to the number of items that's allowed in the "vicinity" (something like 3 * 3 or 5 * 5 world tiles) numbering a number of thousand. Note that this number includes the stacks in built structures such as walls, fences, etc., so a fence might consist of two stacks of 1 withe each and 2 stacks of stakes (where the 2 different stacks comes from two different levels of quality), resulting in a "cost" of 4 stacks.

Re: The situation and stuff Take care yourself, and make extra sure not to spread the virus to or between those you help.

While I agree a good game is welcome when forced into inactivity, there is not an urgent need to update it at an express rate. Spend your time the way you feel is the best one.

Re: Various questions from a new player
Spoiler: show

It's as it has been for a long time. Warrior camps are extremely rare, and I've never seen one apart from the one in the runaway slave starting scenario. However, there have been fairly recent forum reports of people encountering war camps (which are not to be confused with villages).

It's probably another case where the game has changed over the years, but some parts haven't adapted to those changed.

Re: mushrooms UrW tries to simulate your character's limited knowledge about plants by giving randomly assigned "don't know" names to them. You can try to increase the herb lore by frequently trying to identify them, which gradually increases the skill which eventually allows you to identify them all. Once my starting character has enough food to relax a bit I try to perform a weather lore and identify each of a number of carried leaves each morning when awakening, evening when going to bed, before eating, and when waiting for fatigue to wear off before doing something quality related (such as tanning hides). Note that you can't spam identification attempts, so some time will have to pass between each attempt.

The general advice is not to eat unidentified things, in particular mushrooms.
