Yeah, my bad. Was using a migrated character who had some generic blocks about. Just tested it again and trees do indeed drop named blocks.

Is this the same problem as trees not droping named blocks? I can't craft more than rough bowls with carpentry because it requires birch block but when i cut a birch trunk or log into blocks i get generic blocks.

If the process of making clothes becomes more realistic, does that mean that there will be an adjustment to the value of clothes? Also, will there be materials for clothmaking in villages? I would much rather buy a nettle cloth than weave one from scratch.

Back in 2014 i had started writing the URW combat guide. It was discontinued because of real life. Now i think i can get back to it. I was wondering if there is intrest for it. Please give me some feedback.

For those of you who would like to know what i am talking about, here is the link to the old forums.

Gameplay questions / Re: What is the best material for a longbow?
« on: September 24, 2025, 10:03:53 PM »
From diy_glossary.txt:

.Longbow. [effort:2] [phys:stance,arms]    *BOWYER*   /18h/    |2|
{Board} <Pine, Birch> [remove]
{Axe} <Carving axe> [wearpct:30]
{Knife} <Small knife>
{Bowstring} [remove] [noquality]

So pine or birch, doesn't matter which. Bowstring material or quality doesn't matter at all.

Thanks, i was messing aroynd with fine bowstrings

Gameplay questions / What is the best material for a longbow?
« on: September 19, 2025, 07:49:54 AM »
I have produced a few fine longbows with various perfect boards and normal bowstrings. Now i have some perfect yarn and i dont want to waste it. Has anyone produced a perfect bowstring or a masterwork longbow? If so, what kind of boards and bowstring did you use?

Gameplay questions / Re: Possibility of Superior Furs

The best way i have found to produce the best furs is to always use a masterwork broad knife, work with 0% penalty even if it means taking out clothes (i absolutely tie my dogs to trees and drop everything), vigorous or lively, and beat the skin on a table with a fine club.

Update: Another character of mine with carpentry 76 was able to produce superior arrow in 3.81 using masterwork arrowhead, perfect arrow shaft and perfect nettle yarn.

Some updates with 3.80:

Masterwork staff and 8 Decent staffs, got 5 Fine, 4 Decent and 1 Rough javelin.
The vanilla recipe uses COMMON with no skill modifier; so flat 50.
So there's been some rebalancing in last 3-4, 5? years.

With Carpentry 64-68, using Fine wood slats I get about 90% Fine arrows with Decent heads. Using Fine heads and Decent shafts I get about 75% Fine arrows. This character's Timbercraft is not high enough to produce Perfect boards. Using masterwork heads only yields Fine arrows, regardless if using Decent or Fine shafts. (that was expensive experimentation)
I think I need to wait for late winter, then go start a new cabin. Timbercraft should go up nicely. I'm sort of expecting to get Superior arrows with decent heads and Perfect arrow shafts. Carpentry might hit 70 over the winter, which can skew the testing results.
All arrows were tied with Fine linen yarn.
Might need another toon to test with. Higher Timbercraft, Carpentry in 40-50 range.

I have tried producing superior arrows with masterwork arrowheads, fine arrow shafts and fine yarn and i seem to be able to do so about 25% of the time
