They directed me to a shelter, and I'm in the area indicated on the map, does the shelter show the shelter icon when it's in the visible range? Or do I have to stumble around blind looking for it in a massive area?

Gameplay questions / Snares need yarn now?!

Using 3.80 ... why the heck do I need YARN for snares? Snares should be trivially easy to make, but I have to wait until I'm in a season where I can harvest and then ret plants and have access to them to spin yarn to make a snare? Instead of using a withe, or some birch bark cord ... or some leather? What the heck!

Heard they winter in caves, have put Bear traps across every cave entrance I can find, almost back to Spring now, no dice. What's a good way to track one down?

What's gonna happen? I couldn't make it back home in time to grab stuff to pay them with, and was chasing down a reindeer, and when I made it back home they were no longer with me. Gonna kill me in my sleep? Just can't find them.

I have bagged a number of elk so far, all in the winter, and not a single one has had horns, do they just not have horns in the winter, or am I just unlucky?

Gameplay questions / Linen Yarn

I traded with a village, picked up some "linen yarn (150 ft)", and some "hemp yarn (150 ft)". However, when I try to make cloth, I have the options of Nettle, Flax Linen and Hemp Linen, no just Linen. And when I try either of the Linen options it tells me it's not the right kind. What the heck is this? I'm guessing there's nothing I can do and I've wasted trade resources.

Can companions help me carry stuff? I took one hunting, and we bagged an elk, but I can't carry it all, and it's a long way back home, so I won't be able to return for whatever I have to leave behind. I've tried [p]ushing stuff into them like a pack animal, but that doesn't seem to work.

I'm deep into the winter, and got this mission from one of the Sages at a nearby village. I found an ants nest, and waited until "Night", and stood on top of the nest and sacrificed a bit of a silver bracelet I'd purchased. Then I sat in a nearby Spruce post I'd setup for the occassion, beside a bonfire I setup to keep me warm. I waited the entire night, and deep into "Early morning". No spirit appeared. Is there a failure chance? Did I do something wrong? Meeting the water spirit was really easy and worked the first try. Silver ain't cheap!

This is happening with my skiing skill, preventing other skill upgrades during the day, I'm assuming there's some skill rust mechanic and I'm losing a fraction of a percent everyday and it's being restored??

My dog is eating so much meat in a day it's cutting into my stores! Their appetite is voracious, and I haven't even had  successful hunt with it yet, nervous to try to do so without a hunting horn!

How much is the minimum they need to eat a day to not die? They don't appear to eat any spoiled meat or fish, despite the forums seeming to say otherwise. Do they eat bones?

How hard are they to retrieve without a hunting horn when loosed?

How the heck is dried meat unworthy of a trade?! It's supposed to be the major medium of trade that I as a starting character can get! I trap animals an dry the meat and then the bloody villages won't take it, so how the heck am I supposed to trade?!

Why?? I boil beverages from herbs for their herbal effect (which I'm not sure I'm getting) and they fill up my hunger, rather than my thirst? This is puzzling...

I'm a bit confused about the benefits, they seem to decrease my speed, though I assume they spend less energy moving from place to place? I mean, they're slower on snow than they are walking on my floor, and I don't know about anyone else, but when I try to walk around on a hard surface without snow in skis, it's quite difficult and not fast at all. Yet my speed in them is the same as without indoors, and faster than skis on snow. So confused.
