Re: Adding marriage - poll about how you find its priority
Since when marriage is something political? Let's leave out 2020 drama out of this, this is a game in another period of time. The elks should decide what to add, if they decide to add something, based on what happened then, aka history, not politics. I personally definitely want somekind of marriage and even the possibility to have toddlers, even if they will never grow up. For an added challenge and for the fun of it. Since little cubs have been implemented in the game, why not have a few kids too. March 26, 2020, 11:30:55 AM |

Re: 'Asentokuusi' - simple shelter under a leaning spruce tree
Is there any how-to video of someone making it in real life? I can't find it anywhere. Does this work in real life with pine trees? Anyways, I have never seen anyone even mention this before but seems like a very important survival skill, as it's the simplest shelter I've ever heard of.

Re: What's Going On In Your Unreal World?
It's been a while, and now I'm thinking about my young virtual survivor, sunk in virtual snow, within his virtual forest.Well said July 05, 2024, 06:33:48 AM |

Re: Bigger settlements and warfare?
I didn't agree with you at all ![]() I want a couple of trading posts and occasional raiders, as was historical, not cities with armies and heroes! But yeah, read the links that Plotinus gave, Finland was... different. Still is, in many ways

War parties and hunting groups
Following the suggestion here: Bigger settlements and warfare Specific suggestion for Finn war and hunting parties. With already existing code base is to have Driik, Reemi war parties to counter attack Njerpez (code from Njerpez raiding parties) Bonus for asking PC to join a war party, or quest to go get X more volunteers from other villages/cultures to join. Add hunting groups (few cultural encyclopedia pages mention seasonal hunting and fishing groups) instead of just single hunters. I feel this would add great level of realism and immersion. Re: Bigger settlements and warfare?
I am aware of that. I stand by what I said though. Think about all the things of which proof we found in the last decade. Earlier many people would say "there is no proof of that". Naturally, considering history a science it has to be open for new factual discoveries to replace the old theories, but the game world is based on the current knowledge of the history, and the settlements modelled in accordance with that. A village was/is most often just a few houses. Game encyclopedia "VILLAGES" entry explains this to some extent. There are actually quite many things that were invented and established elsewhere in the world even thousands of years before the game era but didn't quite exist in this remote northern location. But out of curiosity, what would you consider a historically relevant population for that "small city" that would fit in the era? October 27, 2024, 12:49:56 PM |

Re: What's Going On In Your Unreal World?
Woke up this morning to the sound of my dog barking, so I grabbed my spear and opened the door of my cabin to see what the fuss was about. I came face to face with a bear. With a girlish squeal I leapt back into the cabin but the bear was through the door before I could close it. Trapped inside a 4m by 4m cabin with an enraged bear, and all before breakfast. My first strike was a good one right to the skull, and I lunged and countered again and again as both me and the bear panicked big style. I got him, though. Bearburgers, anyone? ![]() What's impressive is that usually I play a combat orientated Finn, but this guy is a Reemi trapper. His spear skill is 66% and dodge 50%, and as it's summer he was wearing almost nothing. Thank God he grabbed his spear before going to investigate the noise - though I have now learned to wield it as well before opening the damn door! March 25, 2025, 12:01:39 AM |

Re: Adding marriage - poll about how you find its priority
I mostly just want to be able to create my own community. I want to be able to have people that you can leave at your home that you have to take care of. It would be nice if they could help out with tasks but just having some people to care for would be amazing. You don't even have to spell it out in game why they are with you, just let the player imagine that part for themselves. That way people could imagine they have a family or just close friends living together in whatever manner they want. July 20, 2025, 04:31:06 PM |

Re: Fantasy?
I don't know of any, though I think the old Shamen mod had magic stuff in it? URW began as yet another fantasy rogue-like, but I think Sami saw the market was saturated and began to develop in a direction he knew about - living in the woods in Finland. Far more engaging than elves and all that shite ![]() I remember a few years back, someone trying to tell the devs that their timbercraft timings were way out. So they did a video of I think it was Erkka, splitting a trunk into boards to prove the point. Where else do you get that kind of dedication to realism?

Making of making of clothes
Last week Erkka (UnReal World co-designer) came over for a few days visit and we delved into adjusting requirements for making clothes - namely the thread requirements - as in the upcoming version making of majority of clothes will require a needle and certain amount of thread. We did the planning in old-school way relying on written sources, pen and paper - for that is the good old way of the unreal world devs. So, below you'll find a few making of pictures from this making of clothes planning session. The book that was in use now will surely be used again in many more times as the making of clothes now keeps improving. ![]() ![]() ![]() October 27, 2025, 07:08:44 PM |
