Building and initial first winter home I'm wondering if one of the walls is a fireplace will it still be considered sealed to use as a smoker?
I'm thinking of doing this:
w= wall various
D = Door
F = fireplace

D+++D

You can't place fireplace there without floor. I think the minimalist is:
C d C
w f w
d x d
C d C
c= corner
w= wall
d= door
x= open space

Privateer nailed it. The spot for proposed fireplace needs ceiling&floor built on the spot first. And that tile on edge doesn’t seal the structure for smoking.
The interior 1x2/exterior 3x4 is the smallest smoke-able structure.
Unless smoking in open doorway counts as “inside heated room”. Haven’t tested.

Just checked and an open door DOES NOT stop "Heated room" from working. My guess is that only a structural check is done.
Kind of like not having to close the shutters, If the door were missing it won't work.

So smallest smoker is 1x1interior. With 3x3 exterior while smoking happens on open doorway.
Not very immersive, but each to their own.
Edit: misunderstood Privateer. Smallest smoker is the 1x2 interior one.

I don't think you can smoke in the doorway though ;D

Ah, then I misunderstood you.
Open door doesn’t and hasn’t ever AFAIK affected smokability of a room.

The interior needs to be 1x2 as one tile is the fireplace and the other where you stand as "inside" to be able to smoke the meat.
