I suggest the player could make route points on a wilderness map. I would use it when I want to take a scenic look a round to see potential game or threats. My route would go along the hills so I could see far.

You can do a points in big map (F6 map), if does help you.

yeah I can put the red "X" but i want to still leave those for other purposes like notes. The Route points would be like a line.

Just reserve one color for your lookout points (which really are what you want to move to anyway), another for hostile sightings, a third one for meat left behind when you couldn't carry all of it, etc.

thanks guys i never realized i can switch the color

Blue for drops (smoking meat in villages, drying meat in the wilderness, lightening load when engaging big game or Njerpez, raft left on waterways)
Red for danger
Yellow for noting village/settlement fine&masterwork goods, sage, animals.
Green for worthy plants (burdock, bear pipes, golden rod and so on)
White for any other notes.
I like that you can F6 in zoom in view, make note, chase game, get kill or not. Get on wilderness view and check where you left your stuff. Super handy when bumping into game blindly.

People already replied to this assisting how to add different colour map markers. That's the way add your points.
