I found this very secure house.  Is the builder still trapped inside?

Lin, I just recently figured out that you can [A]pply a bear skull to pull out the teeth, you will need a knife.  Then the bear skull can be [P]ushed into a pine tree to complete the bear skull rite.  This is a ritual that all characters start with, so it must be common knowledge and important.  The teeth seem important even though I haven't fount any discrete use for them, I can say my survivor has been wrecking face since he started carrying the teeth around with him..

I haven't found any use for antlers, their trade value is painfully low, but they do look kinda nice when placed on a fence or a wall.

Finding silver things can be somewhat elusive.  It seems to me that villages might become a bit more wealthy over time and when they restock they might have a silver trinket.  Also keep some high value furs with you at all times and keep your eyes peeled for the boys in blue, foreign traders have something silver about half the time, give or take.

I think some or all of these features are planned, check out the dev goals: http://www.unrealworld.fi/urw_development.html

I think the replenishment of animals would be a somewhat easy thing to add.  And it would make sense realistically, dogs are nearly fully grown at one year old, for example.

Guides and tutorials / Re: Skill Training Guide

I think timbercraft helps your survivor make staves as well, but its very hard to make a fine staff, which can be made into a fine javelin.  I have not managed to do this yet, I've only found fine staves in villages.  I'm hoping that this will be possible once my survivor's skill gets to 85% or 90%.

For tracking I saw a great tip somewhere, the key is to use the skill on tiles where you do not see tracks but suspect they might exist.

One way to skill up weapon skills is by using a low power attack to finish off an animal.  For example using a javelin with a blunt attack to dispatch an unconscious elk.  This typically takes many hits and so seems to be a good way to gain a skill point.  Maybe holding onto a crude weapon for this purpose would let you get more swings in.

How do you find the nutrition for a given food item? I'm modding in some recipes for bread and I want to look at the standard flatbreads for reference. (I know the game can automatically create the values for modded food-items but I think the way I've structured it will make it a bit funky, if not non-existent.)

I think the nutrition for flatbread will come from the flour used to make it.  I think these values are defined in the herbs.txt file.  There's also a wiki page for flour: http://www.unrealworld.fi/wiki/index.php?title=Flour

Gameplay questions / Re: Utility knives and axes in 3.50
« on: April 09, 2018, 05:17:49 PM »
From my reading of the logs it seems that some crafting projects have different steps.  I think producing a wooden shovel and building a wooden wall both  both have 2 different "best tools".  When producing a wooden wall from logs, you need to carve out the notches where the logs will fit together (I picture Lincoln logs) as well as smoothing the overall shape of the log so it sits flush with its neighbor.  This makes sense to me, where you would want a broad axe to shave down the overall surface but a carving axe to make the notch.

The time taken depending on the tool seems to vary wildly as any poor sod making a shelter with only a stone knife will tell you.

Small knives are preferred for peeling the bark from trees, and they seem to be selected over any other available when making clothes or bandages.

Watch out, he could be a berserker with 2 axes like that!

Not bugs / Re: berries "picked" bug

I think that sometimes birds can pick the bushes, could this have happened to your bushes?  What type of berries and what time of year is it?  Have the berries ripened?

I have done this quest twice and been (I feel) exceedingly fortunate each time.  Both times the animal was in a spruce mire.  The first run I had no idea what I was doing and I started using my tracking skill in the zoomed out map, and found fresh tracks for the reindeer doe.  The second time I was going in straight lines east to west on the zoomed in map and I ran across tracks very close to the middle of the search zone.  I had previously used tracking skill on the zoomed out map, so it seems that trick works only sometimes.

Edico: I think they are really rare, I hardly ever see them.  I think there is a mod where you can make them though.

Bakkat: I think any of the edible herbs work as seasoning; leaves, flowers or roots (I'm not sure about seeds).  Keep in mind that their effects will be present in the cooked food, some herbs make you drowsy.

Solved'n'fixed bug reports / Re: Calf overweight
« on: April 04, 2018, 09:09:52 PM »
I noticed this as well.  I brought down an elk and calf during the winter.  I didn't pay attention to the amount of meat, but the calf gave a 24lb fur and the "elk" gave 20lb.  Both furs were described as "winter" furs.

73
Wow, how many winters does your survivor have?  I have only done a single robbers quest so I'm not exactly in a position to make many helpful comments here.  One thing that I noticed was that the NPCs I hired said something about being rewarded for their service at the end of the adventure.  I dismissed my party after the robbers were slain and they didn't ask for anything like I was expecting them to, so I followed them them and "D"elivered a share of the loot to each of them.  I wonder if they expect to be paid better than an equal share of loot if they will agree to join again in the future?

74
Sympathies for your poor dog.  I have had the same sort of thing happen to me while I was trying to finish off an unconscious bear.  I cracked my dog over the head with the blunt (thankfully) end of the spear and fractured his skull.  It was nearly a disaster because he turned on me and tried to savage me.  Luckily he calmed down after I dodged.

In the future I think I'll be tying my dogs up when I close in for a killing blow on a down opponent.

It may have been a poisoning death after all.  I broke through the ice for !!science!! and the knife and food fell into the water and disappeared.  So perhaps this guy's wife was just a bit tired of his shenanigans and fed him some sand mushroom soup.  Then dumped his body on top of the frozen well to cover her tracks.
