Not bugs / Re: Crops not staying planted?

Was it a village's crop field or one of your own?

I was about 2 tiles away from the village. No villagers wandered into the crop area so I assume it was "available".

That is still very close to the village, so during the harvest time the villagers might actually take advantage of this field.
But as it was swidden month, and not the harvest season, we can rule out the NPCs.
The other plausible theory, as mentioned, is that the wild animals have been eating your harvest, but in that case I believe there would still be some crops to be found and not the entire field cleared.

To find out for sure, if you feel like it you can .zip up the character folder and e-mail it over to me. I'll check it out and see if there's something odd going on.

Regretfully I have since died in the game file by falling into ice and freezing/drowning to death! But thank you for the offer!

General Discussion / Question on Prices?
« on: January 02, 2024, 07:11:03 PM »
I looked at the wiki on the prices/value of various items. It all seems very out of date, from versions from years ago.

I have read that knowing the value of things...is partially kept hidden to avoid the game feeling..."too gamey"?

Is there any way to find accurate values for the current version? I assume that the value of things are known SOMEWHERE because it has to be programmed into the game no?

My main concern is knowing what things are worth making because are valuable and can be traded. I know boards/loop snares are a basic solution (which I have exhausted). But I have so much time to kill in game until my crops are ready I am trying to be economical with my time and make things by hand so I can trade them :)

Even if things were organized into tiers...like Very Low, Low, Medium, High, Very High value? Do you have any tips or suggestions?

Are there any rabbits around?

!! rabbits can eat your crops? I did not know that! I did not see any rabbits so far. How would I protect them from getting eaten?
Fences? Traps?

General Discussion / Re: What's Going On In Your Unreal World?

My world is pretty quiet. I started in an isolated corner of my home culture. Just two villages nearby. I am focusing on farming and crafting. Started with the Agriculture start. I planted a ton of crops and now am spending my time trading/crafting and training up my skills. After using the trading board/loop exploit I have all the tools I need plus a few extra trading items. Even before I harvested my crops I have "made it".

I was always interested in survival games. I aspired to play games that were "realistic". After a lot of googling around I found this game. I am a fan of old graphics/retro games and the graphics for this game are perfect!

I think it is fair if players experiment with how much they can "push" the game...what they can get away with. Rewarding experimentation is good game design imo.

Also consider that some people may get bad luck with their starting items and using boards/loops trading is needed to just get the basic things needed to survive (say punt and net for fisherman or shovel/sickle for farmers).

Not bugs / Crops not staying planted?

I was playing the steam version (3.82) on 12/23/23 and I found a (bug?). I was in a field, it was Swidden Month. I saw patchy bits of ground that looked like prepared soil. I planted a crop in that square and the tile changed like normal. Upon leaving the area and coming back, the crop tile returned back to "normal". Normally when you prepare the soil and plant the crop it remains the "planted" even if you leave the area?
