Roaches (Särki in Finnish) are one of the most common fish, along with perches. They weigh around .2 lbs, and even if 'delicious' when cooked, will only fill a sliver of your hunger bar. While large quantities of roaches (about of 10 - 20 roaches) can fill your hunger bar, it is far more efficient to just keep fishing until you catch a larger fish, such as a pike.

Roaches are rarely used for anything other than bait in Traps due to their small nutrition value and low weight. They are also useful as sacrifices to appease the spirits for little overall loss.

URW Game Encyclopedia description

The official URW in-game encyclopedia (accessed by the F1 key) doesn't have a separate entry for the roach, but in the entry on Fishing, it mentions the roach and roach-fishing in the following paragraph:

The fish to be caught depends on the fishing method, equipment and the fishing site. Different kind of fish live in shallow or deep waters, lakes or rivers. Perches, roaches, breams and pikes are the most common fish living in lakes. Salmons are found only in rivers, and especially in rapids during their spawning season. There are also lavarets, trouts, pike-perches and so on.
