When birch-bark is used in clothing its use is restricted to shoes, head-dresses and small pieces for spot protection or to be used as ornaments etc. This is because finished birch-bark equipment isn't very elastic and feels coarse against the skin.
More commonly birch-bark is used in making of various artifacts, knapsacks for example. Birch-bark garments give some protection against edge and tear attacks but for point or blunt strikes they are somewhat useless.

Birch-bark is a type of material, derived from birch trees. Birch-bark clothing and other items are derived from this material. Birch bark has been used since ancient times for various decorative and utilitarian purposes.

Availability

Birch trees can be found growing throughout the world in spruce mires, groves, thickets and other terrain. Bark of the tree can be gathered by peeling it with a knife through timbercraft skill. It's also possible to find birch-bark items from friendly and hostile NPCs, and they can be bartered for by trading.

Uses

Select clothing items can be made directly from strips of birch bark. The bark can also be made into birch-bark rope, a type tying equipment, as well as utility articles like boxes and baskets.

Birch-bark shoes can be particularly useful during summer time as to avoid wearing down footwear made of more valuable materials, but on its own the material is largely unsuitable for survival against elements or combat.
