With the arrival of Christianity to Finland during the Middle Ages, the knowledge of the old spells began to fade and the beasts started to return to their natural bloodthirsty habits. In order to pacify these beasts once and for all, the jolliest badass of all time, Santa Claus, was summoned to Finland. He wrestled all the reindeer into submission and chose the most unruly ones for his own herd to be kept under his watchful eye near his [[wikipedia:Korvatunturi|Korvatunturi]] residence. The remaining reindeer, now wrestled into submission, he gave as a gift to the northern tribes as a thank you for keeping the beasts' temper at bay for centuries. Santa's pacification of the reindeer is still remembered today and celebrated by giving gifts in late December each year.

Forest reindeer are a common sight in Unreal World. They travel in herds of around 8 individuals. They usually respond to the player by fleeing, but in some instances will attack the player. Forest reindeer are usually the prey targeted by trap-fences, as they are easily funneled into trap pits. A mid-sized forest reindeer yields around 150 lbs of meat (small ones about 80 lbs), and about 9 lbs of hide. The hide takes up to 4 days to tan, depending on the weather.

Because they travel in herds, their tracks will constantly overlap each other making it problematic to track them as the tracks of each individual reindeer will overlap with one another. Because of this you need to be able to find a way to separate one from the rest. If you are able to use the bow to inflict a bleeding wound, you can follow the bloodscape instead of the tracks, though the wound may cease to bleed causing you to rely on tracks again. Alternatively, you can spook the herds by running towards the middle and try to cause the reindeer to flee in different direction which will separate them allowing you to track a single one, though they will soon converge on each other.

Some tribes in the north (e.g. Kuikka-Tribe) domesticate them, and sell them to the player. Domesticated (bought) Reindeer yield the same amount of meat and hide as wild ones. They have a carry capacity of 94 pounds (tested with rocks)(3.15)
