The hands are the base tools of most, if not all, tasks. Some injuries prevent the use of your hands, seriously imparing production and even survival. See survival tips at the bottom of the page.
Hands as a weapon
Undoubtedly[citation needed], hands are one of the worst weapons in the game, but with the single perk that you can never drop them. It is generally still better to expose yourself to the enemy by stooping down in front of him, picking up your dropped weapon, and re-equiping it. You cannot block or counterstrike while unarmed.
Hands as a tool
Crafts that accept your hands as their minimum tool requirement.
- Arrow
- Blunt arrow
- Loop snare
- Cord
- Bandage
- Torch
- Ski stick
- Collecting Branches or Spruce twigs
Survival Tips
If the PC is injured he may lose the use of his hands. He can still eat, but he can't light a fire so be sure to take him to a village and make use of theirs. At the village be sure to talk to the village sage multiple times until all your wounds into the green or until they stop appearing better after talking to him. It is best to use your physician skills before talking to the sage because he can help with any failures you might have. Don't treat your wounds if they are already dark green because you can only make them worse. Just rest for a few days by their fire. Eventually you will heal enough to make some torches (about 9) to trade for a fishing rod. From there you should be able to procure some food on your own and begin rebuilding.
Once your hands are better enough to do crafting, you can borrow tools from the locals if they are on the ground. Just bring your raw materials there and without picking up the tool do any crafting that needs to be done. If you pick them up, they will think you want to buy or steal them, but if you leave them on the ground they know that you aren't going to take them away.
