Unique Player Portrait

Is there any way to modify the game files so that I can have a unique portrait?

I know of a way to add in portraits (Northx, Westx, Eastx, etc.) but NPCs also use the same portraits.

Is there any big repository of custom portraits that could be used. I've tried deviant art but it's mainly cartoons and google images isn't really that good either.
