Fatigue builds up faster when winter traveling in wooded and mountainous terrain, and I'd expect roads to be at least as good as (frozen) mires. In addition to that, they indicate village relations and show you where nearby villages are if you're exploring the area. Plus, sleeping on them is not recommended. They also have some flora that may be of interest.

thanks for the quick reply.

well, i've found out about the not sleeping there part, and the flora.

but i was talking about the road itself, does it do anything at all, does it have a mechanic?

it's obvious roads are easy to follow and in that way allows you to find a place without getting lost, that's the primary purpuse why i'm building one. but other then the visual que on where to go it doesn't seem to actually make a difference in how fast fatigue builds up or how fast you can walk/run.

it's great if your character has a bored day with nothing to do, it takes years to build a road. in summer at best 2 tiles/day, in winter only 1.
it's great if you tend to get lost in the woods, it marks the way.
