Newbie combat question

Hello, I have played Unreal World long ago and now I want to start again. When I started to play, I noticed I can't even use my wielded hand axe for combat. It is as my first tool, I press 1 but nothing happens, even though punch and kick works.
Is there something I don't understand or must do before I start using a wielded weapon?

Sounds like a technical problem. What is the hardware you are using? What operating system are you on? Do you use 1 on keypad or above the letter keys?

Thank you, your reference helped me figure it out. It seems it was because of my set keyboard language. When I set it on USA language - it works.
