General Discussion / Re: 6 for 6 Bear trapping
« on: November 12, 2018, 05:43:18 PM »
I was just thinking about trying an "active" trapper. Roam around with some bulls and dead fall supplies, couple of turnips and meat. And do almost the same strategy zoom in one tile away set traps and check back for a couple of days. Might make processing deer herds less waste full than active hunting

Spotted a wolf pack on the outskirts of a Reemi pasture dug a trap pit. I hired a hunter to watch my back. When we returned to the trap the other members of the pack attacked him nearly bit is neck in half first attack. Oddly the pack didn't come after me. I attacked the trapped wolf knowing that it's mates would come I a quickly backed into a tree thicket so they couldn't attack from behind. After a few attacks the pack scattered. I built a dead fall trap near by, and reset the pit trap with fresh *cough* meat. Over the next few days by my hands, hounds, or traps I took 6 wolves one attacked and killed a villager, they killed that one, for a total of 7 I think that is all of that pack

I had a job that was mostly automated but still needed a human to monitor and occasionally adjust the process so I had free time and a computer. I was poking around the internet archive (archive.org) dos game section for something to play stumbled across a version 2.40 UrW. I tryied and liked it so I googled it and came into the modern world of 3.40. I side note I almost cried when they disabled the USB ports and I could no longer play my thumb drive copy at work

General Discussion / How do you play
« on: November 05, 2018, 09:54:01 PM »
I'm curious as to how others play. I like to play nomadic hunters. I'll take as many animals as think I can process, sometimes more  ;), I prioritize hides and sell meat for furs and arrows as trade goods. I typically have two dogs I like small or regular and a bull when I can find one. I offten end up a couple of bulls, I'm a pack rat and the item limits get me. I tend to hunt mires and lichenous pine Forests from the overland map. I'll encounter the animal And when it zooms in I'll take as many bow shots as I can and send the dogs after them. How do you play? Do you Tavel on the overland map or more on the zoomed in map? I hear some people find drowned animals what were you doing when found them? Just talk more in depth about your play styles.

Also your animal birth rate is off while gestation for most animals are shorter than humans you need to take into account the added time to wean young and more importantly the physical strain and food demands would keep most animals other than small rodent like creature to one offspring per year. Also even in, the balmy, compared to Finland, 40° latitudes where I hail from winter is nasty enough to keep most animals to a seasonal birth pattern and to one birth a year. To piggy back on this suggestion Sammi when you implement birth female dog's hunting abilities should be hampered at a certain level of pregnancy.

First yes please to being able to trade out of a pack animal. Second I feel that a rope or a hanging stand would not make a difference on the amount of meat but might improve quality, and absolutely would make the ergonomics of butchering easier. So may be a time penalty for no rope or a bonus for rope?

I love this game's program. My active hunter dropped in on a riendeer herd but there was a glutton too oh well sic the dogs on a deer and the hunt is on. Latter I hear barking to the north and a bawl of pain to the west? So I head to the west. To my surprise I find the glutton attacking the deer. I've seen small prey getting taken by birds of prey but this the first time I've seen big prey attacked. I love this games details

Thanks for the link. I only glanced at because I'm currently at work. But it looked to be how to mod, I didn't make my self clear I'm not interested in creating a new mod, but I want to be able to add others existing mods. Is there a simple way to "plug and play?"

Gameplay questions / Re: this game in unplayable and i'm triggered

If you are getting fatigued walking then I'm guessing that you started either spring or winter.  You do fatigue walking through snow, also animals don't seem to tire as quick in cold weather.  Start in summer maybe fall. My easiest start is a high speed character preferably a Kaumo. Spear is a great beginning skill as javelins are simple to make and are both ranged and and melee. Start south east corner of map, reemi territory, dark green culture area. Swampy tiles are your friend. Best vision over land map, fewest trees zoomed in. There are lots of them in reemi. When you spot a large animal walk onto its image and you get auto zoomed in. I like carrying a javelin in each hand and a third in my inventory. Throw the first two javelins hope for a lucky strike. Then begin following the prey. Your third javelin is to use as a spear. Remember ther more gear you carry the slower you are. Travel light. If you can find and afford one buy a dog.  On a cheat side of things copy your characters folder to somewhere else. If things go bad, you die, delete the your character folder from Urw and move your copy too URW. And your alive again.
