It seems that companion dogs don't leave tracks even if they are NPC dogs. Town dogs still do when they leave the village tile.

A little annoying when they've got an arrow I want back in them.  ;)

Off-topic / Re: Spears are better than swords - video
« on: September 21, 2019, 06:57:25 AM »
Interesting, but where's the spear and shield vs sword and shield group fight?

I'll also tell you from experience that a Shield wall with shorter weapons with a wall of spears behind them is even better. My favorite tactic was to use an axe and shield. I use the axe to hook the opponent's shield and bring it down a bit and the spear guy behind me stabs him in the face. Works really well.

I gotta say, I've been playing around with the new build and it's fantastic!

Thank you Sami!

Now I wonder what's next.... Well next is fixing the relatively few bugs that got introduced, of course, but after. It's very exciting to play a game that keeps getting better and better.

No pressure on that, BTW, I'm still exploring all the things you've added in - like the hunter who killed the wild boar I'd just spent considerable time tracking down!

"You hear a death rattle from the North East." Huh? Little further.... is that a dog? Yes it is! Little further..... is that a hunter? Yes it is! Oh....... Drat.  :)

Suggestions / Cord to rope and back
« on: September 18, 2019, 06:32:05 AM »
It would be nice to be able to turn cord into rope and split rope back into cord at some point. You probably lose some in the latter.

Ahh.. This appears to be the cause of the bug I just recorded, thanks!

I had 1ft of cord left from various things. I then when to construct 1 arrow and had >0.1 weight left of cord. I have been able to make a further 9 arrows with this and still have the cord.

Really excited for this! One suggestion: When we harvest Birch Bark strips it shouldn't be called "cords" it should be called what it was - a Sommelo! I can't wait to use .5 (or whatever) of my Fine Birch Bark Sommelo to craft a Birch Bark Basket!

Bug reports / Re: Cannot throw 1 handed
« on: March 01, 2019, 06:14:41 AM »
Will do my best - I don't currently have a character with an arm that badly damaged. Things heal.  ;)

Basically it's this: I have had two characters starting with the "Hurt, Helpless and Afraid" scenario with severe damage to one of their arms (it's possible one was a hand injury). The damage was bad enough to deny the character the ability to do tasks which required 2 hands and other tasks were "this task will be extremely awkward".

So, having picked up several rocks, I equipped one into the primary weapon slot. I then tried to throw at a bird (not that there was much chance of hitting with IIRC 67 in total injury, but luck sometimes happens). This did in fact open the inventory. I selected the rock I had wielded. I forget the exact message but it was something like "you must have two hands to do this."

I'll try making a random test character to see what happens.

Gameplay questions / Re: Spoiler! Quest related

On the plus side, it doesn't take much silver - you lose a few shavings from your item not the whole thing. One small piece of silver jewelry can be used many times for this ritual.

Suggestions / Tags list.
« on: February 10, 2019, 05:35:37 AM »
How about an official list of Tags for the modding community?

Right now we have a good list of tags that have been confirmed to work, but not a list of all of them. An official list would be quite useful, IMO.

Cheers!

Not bugs / Re: Aptitude not updating
« on: February 03, 2019, 05:43:15 AM »
When completing a game course and choosing to raise the attributes the attributes raise but the skill aptitude stays the same. Skill aptitude is an average of attributes so if they all go up by one shouldn't the aptitude also increase by 1?

Thanks!
   - Shane

Nope, I don't consider that relevant (and I'm not sure if harnmaster original rules do that either) as the aptitude is "inborn", original quality for given skill.
OK, I can see that. But to correct you in Harnmaster your attributes don't go up - but they can go down due to impairments and this does affect your Skill Base. No need change it really (especially not to add in impairments  :-X ).

Good to see you back in the saddle, so to speak.  ;)

General Discussion / Re: course reward
« on: January 30, 2019, 07:53:47 AM »
I think it should be easier to increase skills with better stats, although I don't know what the granularity is of that, so I don't know if you have to get lucky to get over a "star"

It is easier to increase skills with higher stats, but the course reward is not factored in. Your aptitude is generated at Character creation but not updated afterwards.

Modding / Re: Torch with no light?

I though that lit torches made fire starting almost automatic? This is the mechanic I was looking to use.

Gameplay questions / Re: How exactly to make elk leather
« on: January 26, 2019, 06:01:24 AM »
Yep, I leave a log and either a stone or club by the water and tan there. Winter does seem to extend the life of each stage but I have had the carcass rot if I didn't butcher it right away. Seems that the carcass doesn't last longer in winter but the products from it do.

The boiled leather waterskin is quite hard, the boiling process rendering it into essentially hard leather armor - or what we would use as such. The leather does have to be thicker to avoid it becoming fragile and to avoid overtly distorting. This is how they made bottles in medieval times - which I believe is consistent with the timeframe for URW, so this is a viable look for the skin. In this case it would have to be heavier than the default skin to hold the amount of water that it does. A full pound or so wouln't be out of line IMO. It should be noted that most of these bottles (that we have, usually fragmented, examples of) seem to be much smaller with the largest holding about a 1L, maybe a little more. My view - and this I don't have documentation for keep in mind - is that for larger amounts of liquid medieval people would probably use wooden kegs of varying sizes.

Edit: I'm an idiot. All this time I'm wondering about waterproofing and forgot about using fat or tallow to do this.  :-[
