Elevation is crucial in UrW, both when hunting for game and exploring for encounters on the map. Finding game in a coniferous forest without a vantage point is a losing proposition most of the time.

Hence why I suggest; tree stands or raised hunting blinds! Wooden towers with a little optional windowed shed perched atop from where a character might be able to have a good view of the surroundings - and possibly shoot game within range. I figure they might have two different useful modes to them giving them increased versatility;

- A local zoomed-in mode, where you could physically climb up into the hunting blind and get a good overview of the local terrain just like when climbing a tree (and possibly not alert nearby game to your presence quite as much as on the ground) while still being able to take potshots at game coming close (bait coming in handy here).

- A wilderness map mode, giving that one map tile better vision over the surroundings by raising the effective elevation by 1 level (for example; a hunting blind built on a Coniferous Forest tile would raise it to the effective elevation of Heathland, giving sight over surrounding Coniferous Forest tiles and lower, but not over Heathland and up).

The cost is left to be determined, but trading wood, time and effort for one of these could be an attractive option for lots of players; hunters active and passive, merchants, explorers, Njerp headhunters ...

Gameplay questions / Bird thief quest; thief won't turn himself in?
« on: August 23, 2020, 02:24:58 PM »
I've completed the two main steps of the bird thief quest more than three weeks ago (finding the traps and feathers, doing the ritual). It seems to have worked (as in, I got an option to tell the quest giver that I did the ritual and then we proceeded to the next bit), and every day the quest giver tells me that the thief still hasn't turned himself in and that we might have better luck tomorrow.

I backed up my save with three days left on the quest clock, and I'm glad I did because the quest actually expired without the thief having ever turned himself in. What gives? Is it just luck of the draw? I completed the quest properly (or so it seemed to me) with tons of time to spare, can it just ... fail by itself?

Any help appreciated

Not bugs / [3.63] "NUMPAD 0" registering as "0"
« on: August 21, 2020, 10:23:36 PM »
Version: Unreal World 3.63, Steam build, modded

What happened: Rarely, pressing "NUMPAD 0" acts as if pressing "0" (kick), bringing up the "Where To Kick" prompt menu.

What's expected: "NUMPAD 0" should always register as "NUMPAD 0".

Steps to reproduce: Hit "NUMPAD 0" several times in rapid succession or keep it pressed down, the kick prompt should appear eventually.

Notes: Interval between two misregistered keypresses is very inconsistent, it can take 1 to 10 seconds of holding down the key for the prompt to appear with a Keyboard character repeat set to short delay and fast repeat rate.

Not bugs / [3.63 - not a bug] Incorrect 3D sound positioning
« on: August 21, 2020, 10:11:50 PM »
Version: Unreal World 3.63, Steam build, modded

What happened: Sometimes, a wild sow grunting in the west has the grunt sound effect play in the right ear, or a dog barking in the north east will have the bark sound effect play in the left ear.

What's expected: The sound origin should match the animal position in space.

Steps to reproduce: Have not attempted to reproduce.
