The Roleplayer seconds this idea.

Villagers just don't seem villagery enough, I know that it is planned to make them much more lifelike. But they are a very big part of the game, in my opinion at least. And having them just shuffle around is just plain boring. It'd be nice if there was some changes in their basic behaviour soon.

Fair points all.. Also, what does Macintosh have to do with anything PALU?

I just realised, although they aren't clothes, shouldn't Kotas be effected by wetness too, they are made from fur after all, shouldn't they leak in the rain when made from reindeer furs and the like? I couldn't find any information on what the sami did to waterproof their tents, so I'm not sure how much of a problem it was.

Modding / Re: Whittling away

@PALU Yes we had planned to create a step by step process, but instead of

10% x, 20% x, we have three or four basic shapes with varying states of completion, and another menu for finishing things off.

Our current system is like this, first we chop a block of wood into whittlable blocks, essentially like chopping firewood, but trying to keep a uniform shape. Then we whittle a whittleable block into a small whittled block, then a shaped small whittled block, then voila a lovely wooden brooch for your girlfriend who is nonexistent in the current build. But since we love our girlfriend, we will take your advice into acccount and carve some little decorations into it.

It should take longer than three steps, so maybe we create a menu for each basic shape with about 8 or 9 states of completion, and a last one for finished products.

The decoration is an excellent point that we hadn't considered but I am not sure about adding embroidery, embroidery would require colored thread, or perhaps even, small metal tubes. We can't be bothered with that right now, however the whittling mod is planned to be expanded to have other, non whittled things, but only after we are done with the basic wooden stuff, so maybe then.

The wooden weapons as toys makes me think of what other toys the kids might have used, I mean weapons are all well and good for the little boys, but girls are planned to, what might they have played with.

Modding / Whittling away

The Roleplayer has savvy friends

A friend of mine and myself have been discussing a whittling mod, as he has wanted a way to kill time during those long winter nights, or the hours of rest at camp. We have set out a step by step method so we can simulate the long process of whittling that can stopped midway. There is just one problem, we have no idea what could be whittled.

What we are thinking is basic doodads and decorative wooden things, but we don't really know what kind of knick knacks the ancient finns liked to make, does anyone have any suggestions. My friend also suggested we could make instruments and I could think of a few that were used, but we couldn't think of an ingame use for them, so if anyone can think of a use that we can code in right now, that would be excellent. And I do know that instruments are a planned feature, but some of us are impatient.

The roleplayer likes this idea.

I have always been annoyed at how my ridiculous amount of fuzzy layers will protect me from cold even when I'm supposed to be soaking wet, my bear fur overcoat is already good enough, being waterproof is just ridiculous. I think wetness should also add a bit of weight to the the clothing, or at least increase encumbrance. I mean wet fur coats are pretty hard to move around in.

General Discussion / Re: Character Dementia

The roleplayer thinks this custom made much sense.

Wolves can get over fences in-game, and considering this game was made to be realistic we can assume that ancient finns didn't know how to make wolf proof fences. Of course most northern societies hadn't mastered high fences either. But we do know that houses are mostly wolf proof, and since most houses in northern parts of the world at that time were very long, it makes sense to have space for bessie.

THe roleplayer wishes to add two of his shiny cents.

Techincally all female mammals should be able to be milked, but I've never heard of anyone trying to milk a sow. I think it's an excellent idea that reindeers should be gendered, especially considering the upcoming baby animals. My issue is in being able to tell them apart at a glance, wich you can do with most animals in this game.. Although I don't think you can tell sows and boars apart unless you examine them. Then I suppose it's a brilliant idea that I cannot possibly refute, as expected of koteko

THE ROLEPLAYER ISN'T A DOG HATER

But I was in a fight and my dog just HAPPENED to get in the way of my arrow, now it's trying to escape. Is this now permanent, will it hate me forever for a little accident?

@koteko

Excellent point I shall do so this very day. And it's not possible to mod them, but we can still dream.

@Corax

No they do not as far as I have seen, it is very strange. Also I believe most of the non-northern villages are supposed to be farms. I'm not sure what the northern tribes' excuse is though.
