General Discussion / Re: Punitive island winter challenge
« on: October 26, 2020, 01:02:35 AM »
@PALU, @Privateer, that makes sense. Well, I'm gonna try it nevertheless. I believe, not using the map will make gameplay feel really differently.

Re-randomizing start location can be a separate challenge, hehehe. I've rerolled 264 times...

And what about zooming? I guess it's similar to The Challenge's terms, only use wilderness map when on top of a mountain?

Stories / Re: Jutta's Tales: The Bog Mother. (A URW Horror Story.)
« on: October 25, 2020, 05:50:20 PM »
I read the story, listening to depressive raw black metal, and it did make me feel grim and cold. @Owlant, I would gladly read some more tales like this.

Noticed a goshawk that tried to kill a black grouse lately. It's the first time I saw a predator actually hunt.

@Buoidda, I'm in! Gonna give it a try shortly.

How about starting a separate thread in the Stories section for challengers' journals?

Suggestions / Re: Sub-categories for food in cellar
« on: October 25, 2020, 07:55:11 AM »
Agreed. My current character had to build a dozen cellars to keep things sorted...

Suggestions / Animals for sale respawn
« on: October 24, 2020, 10:16:51 PM »
It would be nice if new animals for sale appear instead of ones you've bought, over time. I guess it may be implemented along with animals breeding, or even earlier.

Not bugs / Re: Lacking penalty information on setting traps
« on: October 24, 2020, 09:23:20 PM »
Could someone experienced please explain how exactly penalties affect traps? Does it takes more time to set a trap if you've got high penalty? Are the chances to catch a prey affected? Or maybe something else?

@Buoidda, thanks, this sounds really interesting and hardcore! Gonna try it later.

Gameplay questions / Re: Building a fireplace outside of a house
« on: October 24, 2020, 06:49:32 PM »
Paul, did you try to deconstruct Kota interior, then build wooden structure roof&floor?
Surprisingly it worked!

I've just tried different layouts and figured out that it's enough to build a kota framework and two kota insides with a one-tile gap between them, and after that you can build a floor and ceiling at this gap.

It seems we've found the fastest way to get a fireplace outside.

@Buoidda, just tried building a fireplace inside my kota, it didn't worked (game says you can build it only in a location that has a floor and ceiling present). I guess the reason is, kota's inside is different from building's inside.

Some of you remember the island challenge, no?  ;D
Never heard of it. What are the terms of this challenge? I would gladly give it a try, challenges are fun I guess.

1) I made a line of traps from sea to sea across diagonally connected land tiles. Are too many of the traps are situated on 'sea'-tiles (zoomed out)? Does that prevent spawning of birds and land animals even on very successful trap set?
No, it doesn't. I've got a couple of such traps, and prey gets there as frequently as into the other traps.

Does it also warm you up when the fire ran out and embers are glowing?
Didn't checked this. I use it mainly for cooking. I also imagine this fireplace and two birches with bears skulls hanged onto them to be some kind of an altar. If my character wants to make a sacrifice, she always stands in front of this place.

Bug reports / Re: [3.63] Cord quality exploit
« on: October 24, 2020, 09:18:54 AM »
I've tested joining a few times, and it seems that only sequence matters. If first choose a fine cord and then a decent one, you get a decent cord. If first choose a decent cord and then a fine one, you get a fine cord.

Didn't know about the repairing thing, thanks for the info.
