Suggestions / Re: Buff up the elks, add swimming and jumping over fences

Loop snares as well as lever traps do catch hares unbaited. Simply set the trap(s) on the animals path. And here a shrub, low fence, house/barn wall can be used to guide the animals into the traps. Even row of logs or trunks* should be usable as small-game fence. Yes, they can fly/jump/scurry/climb over around or even make U-turn; but small game, especially prey ones, like cover. And predators, well, like to check the cover spots.

*I wish the trunks/logs would be longer than 2m; than what we get from fallen trees...

No problem at all. I used to go fishing to Lappi every summer for years. Don’t recall seeing grown willows past Kuusamo ever. Sevetti and Kaldoaivi might be my favorite areas. Except during räkkä... I rather go north end of August-early September and endure occasional night frost instead.

It can be tiring and doubt infusing at times. But do your best to enjoy the time.
And if you have family close-by, let them help. (Mother might have baby blues and also be hyper protective for sometime. Try your best to do the little things, she’s likely extremely tired for a while.

Got 4 kids; 20, 15, almost 6 and almost 3. 2nd family. They’re all different.
No advise “kids this, kids that” from me. Some sleep, some don’t. Some eat well, others might have reflux. There’s nothing except your (parents) instinct to tell what’s best for your kid(s). Or simply trial and error.

Good luck! And let mom take a nap!

Stakes not so much but sizable piece of firewood could be carved into seita. More common would be to carve a tall stump instead.

Gameplay questions / Re: Bird thief quest; thief won't turn himself in?
« on: November 10, 2020, 10:48:39 PM »
Feathers thrown or pushed, on fire remains: sauna stove or base rock. Should do the trick.
But if the feathers are NOT the quest specific ones, it’ll naturally fail to work as scripted.

Can someone remember trapping a big wolf with a deadfall trap? Pits don't count.
I found a dead big wolf in a big deadfall trap I had originally built to catch a lynx. The fox/arctic fox* cut bait was gone.

*fox cuts are useless for anything else really IMO

... as for dark ages Finnish blasphemers... do absolutely nothing... spirits would correct their ways, there’d be no reason for folks to intervene.
If you’ve done “bird thief quest” you’ll know the attitude going against someone else: they might even put a spell on you. Better to keep to yourself.

Elk stamina should be multiplied by factor of 10-20. Endurance hunting elk should be a few days walk without rest. Not the current: send dog after an elk and then catch up 400m later to a breathless elk. Also, creatures as NPCs should get fatigued more in snow (apart from certain creatures running on the snow)

Erkka and others responded to another suggestion (springs, creeks, road rework) which included mention of game behavior, get in the water, swim or ford; so I full heartedly agree here.

@paulkorotoon , and as always before deleting files. Make a backup. Move / copy to another folder. Or rename by adding something like .old after the real file extension (if any)

Arrows do skip, same as when you throw rocks to skip them on the water’s surface.

But yes, occasionally arrows ingame fly a lot further than expected from the angle.

Awesome, I love it!

Next when you get adjacent to critter that doesn’t flee, can you try to pick it up with ‘;’ or ‘G’?

822
If you try walking to the (same tile as the) animal. Will you get blocked, or will the critter move over like villager? Or will you share the tile, if so can you just pick up the food for later processing?
 ???

Suggestions / Re: Character and clothing&armor sizes
« on: November 03, 2020, 02:47:24 AM »
Head and hand pieces sizes might not be that far form each other. Footwear marginally more.

But leg, arm and body apparel pieces should be varied sizes.

Relating to this - it would be cool for table top contents to appear on the list menu when 'e'ating or 'q'uaffing.
It would be great, in terms of roleplaying, if a table works the same way as a cellar. This would be a reason to actually eat at table, and a nice way to store cooked food.

Ah, I'd prefer seeing eating at the table improve morale/spirits/mood. But that, that'd require massive rework of the nutrition/fatigue/vigour to include characters mood. e.g. eating a warm meal, sitting on a bench by table in a warm cabin: skyrocket one's spirits after toiling in the freezing dark winter's night... eat dried elk every day for months on end, see ones spirits and work performance plummet.

Food stored on table, if anything, should spoil faster than food on floor (heat rises, microbes and enzymes rot food faster when it's warm)

Another day at Windy Forest and Knockenwood. Antti went to check the north-east traps. One small fox. 2 black grouses. head back to cabin. Spot a Njerpez on the Pine mire, turn to intercept him/them. Solo warrior with scimitars, shield, spear and knife. And then I realize I left the hunting bow at the cabin. Oh well, the fine battlesword will have to do. Njerpez calculated his odds and decided to turn and flee. Smart choice. Except the snow in Early Swidden comes to the waist... couple scenic turns later, he manages to get to spruce mire.
Nice, little sport, not just straight on slaughter. Well.
Not really, Antti caught up, swung once, hit hard on his eye, he starts to bleed and falls down, drop the ski stick for better grip, Njerpez stands up. Hit him again, he starts to bleed profusely from his thorax and goes down again.
Time to see if fine battle sword will give clean decapitation. Nope, just stuck on spine, again. At least the Njerpez stays down.
Strip his belongings and dump his remains on a spruce as warning to other invaders.

Continue towards home. Spot another Njerpez. Huh, guess they don't learn. Intercept!
And in straight ahead, gazing at Antti. The Njerpez lays down to sleep. O-K...

And again, not a full decapitation. Got to keep working on that.
