Spoiler: show
The Spirit of the Forest is a Njerpez

I do think ability scores should periodically increase based on what you're doing... hauling logs all day should increase your strength, doing lots of running should increase your endurance, and so forth.  These are teenagers, after all, the body adapts quite quickly at that age.
Yeah, I wouldn't be in favor of that. Grinding stats should not be a thing. And what goes up can go down. I just think the one-off or two-off stat boost shouldn't be tied to the tutorial.

Weather Lore can be trained by practicing it. Once my characters are out of the "scrambling to get enough to eat" phase I perform regular Weather and Herb Lore checks until reaching 100. This means morning and evening, as well as when spending time catching my breath before doing something where I want to have as little penalty as possible (such as tanning).
That's weird, I'm sure I read in here from someone who uses Weatherlore every day and has never seen it level. So I don't bother with it. Has it always leveled like other skills?

When you say 3x3 do you just mean the tile you're on and all adjacent tiles?

General Discussion / Re: I swear by shutters!

I never let my dogs inside. It makes them soft. I wish there was a way to discipline bad dogs who go inside or who wander on thin ice or (the worst thing) who get in the way when I'm pushing a log. I suppose I could tie the damn thing to a tree as a 'time out.'

As for shutters, or multiple doors, it's a shame there's no downside. You shouldn't be able to build adjacent shutters and ideally it would be harder to heat a cabin that has shutters everywhere and make saunas less effective or ineffective.

As for wolves, fighting a pair of wolves sounds exciting. By the time you have a cabin built, that should be eminently doable. (And 2 of my 3 deaths have been via wolf, but never when I was properly dressed for the job.)

Whether encumbrance matter depends on how strenuous the task is. As far as I understand, light task take no penalty from encumbrance, while medium/heavy ones do.
I can't bring myself to waste a bunch of tasty cuts or fine furs to test this theory, but it's the first I've heard of it and I hope it isn't true.

Playing my 3rd still-alive character now. Trying to get used to eating, resting, and changing what I'm wielding in the wilderness map, even though that feels dirty.

Vaguely considering doing a Let's Play YouTube video as virtually all of the ones I've seen have been made by people who are absolutely terrible at the game or who use EZ mode mods.

I'd rather not see politics in the game. I play the game in part to escape politics and introducing 21st century SJW orthodoxy into a late stone age game would ruin most of its charm for me. So for that reason, I think introducing marriage is a bad idea.

I think the tutorial is good for handing out free stuff to new players, but I'd rather see the stat increase happen on your first anniversary or something so that the tutorial isn't something you feel like you have to do if you want to give your character every chance to be awesome. As it is, I just discard any free stuff the game gives me, but that just feels unpleasant.

You could have the first one on your first anniversary and a 2nd one on your 5th anniversary or something like that.

It would also be cool if the common skill leveled (incredibly slowly) again based on longevity. You can't grind it other than by staying alive for years and years. Weatherlore should level similarly, if it doesn't already, so that when you're old you can be a meteorologist like the old farts in the village.

Gameplay questions / Re: Companion - does their help worth the food?
« on: March 11, 2020, 03:36:09 PM »
I'm bad at delegating, so no companions for me, other than to fill the last tutorial requirement.

I have yet to raid a Njerp village or to be killed by a stray Njerp but when that day comes, I suppose I might change my tune.

There shouldn't be any penalty for using stale fat or a mix of fat and bark. I can't remember if spoiled fat works. If you use the fat from the animal you can reduce penalties to 0. If you use bark, 99.9% of the time if you'll get at least a 1% penalty since the unused will be in your inventory.

You seem to be implying that the weight penalty of the clean skin and of the tanning agent used in the tanning process is not counted when you apply tanning agent to a clean skin. Do you KNOW this to be true? I know that it shows no penalty at the END of the process, or DURING the process, as the hide is placed on the ground as soon as the process begins. But my understanding is that only the penalty at the beginning of a crafting process matters and it seems quite possible that the penalty is applied before the skin is dropped on the ground, depending on what order the steps of the crafting process are carried out by the game.

The same question applies to cooking. If I have 10 cuts and nothing else in my inventory and I roast them, is the penalty from the weight of the cuts applied against the cooking result?

These questions are rather autistic, but I'd rather learn to craft the optimal way and then not worry about it than continuously craft suboptimally. That's one of my tiny pet peeves is the seemingly random way in which items can either be nearby or must be in your inventory in order to craft something. If it were up to me, tools would always have to be in your inventory, as would any raw materials smaller than a slender trunk. Or just tools, and raw materials can always be nearby but not in your inventory. But, for instance, when you're drying meat, I believe the only thing that MUST be in your inventory is the tying equipment, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Does using stale fat to tan a hide have any negative implications on the outcome? Does mixing bark and fat have any negative implications?

If I repair a masterwork piece of clothing, does it remain masterwork or is there a good chance that it loses its premium designation? If I have a pair of elk fur mittens, can I use any fur to repair them or will the game only allow me to use elk fur?

Confirming what the consensus here seemed to be, that you CAN craft a fine javelin if you start with a fine staff.

Weird, I got the forwarded email but not the original. Thanks Sami.

Got the saves, and sent them back already. Any archives, .zip or .7z or many others is fine by me.

Awesome, Sami, thanks. Last time you emailed me a link. I don't see it in my email (and I checked my spam folder just in case.)
